The Christopher Doyle (To Ho Fung) and Jenny Suen (Bak Hoi) directed film THE WHITE GIRL (BAK SIK NUI HAI) is in release now. Yesterday they along with leads Angela Yuen Lai Lam and Tony Wu Tsz Tung appeared at a Causeway Bay bookstore for a film special publication autograph session. To Ho Fung even mentioned that he only created this film because he loved Hong Kong, he was so excited that he even broke down in tears.

Angela and Tsz Tung both saw the publication for the first time, when they flipped through it they were especially interested. Tsz Tung said, "Because now too many things are digital, a publication with my own face on it is actually very rare." Many readers and photography fanatics gathered as well, as flash bulbs kept flashing the atmosphere became cheerful. With Christmas on the way, Angela said that last year she and her boyfriend went to Cheung Chau for a barbecue. This time they would attend a party at a friend's home. Tsz Tung said that because he was ill, the most important was to see a doctor. He would also celebrate the holiday with his other half Stephanie Au Hoi Shun.

The Soi Cheang Po Shui directed, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Feng Shaofeng, Zanilia Zhao Liying, Xiao Shenyang, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Law Chung Him, Lin Chiling, Kingdom Yuen King Tan starred fantasy action comedy THE MONKEY KING 3 (SAI YAU GEI NUI YI GOK) wishes everyone Merry Christmas.

Gigi wished happy coupling for all the lovers of the world; the Monkey King Sun Wukong, Kwok Fu Sing mischievously asked everyone to tell their Christmas wishes to "Herland" so they would come true on the Lunar New Year's Day; the Sand Monk Law Chung Him wished for peace and Merry Christmas for everyone.

Zhao Liying and the film's "Eastern Holy Deer" sent the most elegant wishes to everyone on this White Christmas. The deer took over 10 million RMB and over 18 months to create. Each hair, muscle, movement dispalyed its divine specialty. In order to achieve the visual effects that Director Cheang Po Shui wanted, the process from design, model production and special effect handling had over 100 editions. Each scene in the film required a team of 30 people or more to produce.

The Chen Kaige directed, Sandrine Pinna (Cheung Yung Yung) starred film THE LEGEND OF THE DEMON CAT not only had great word of mouth after its release but also performed the best among films of the period at the box office after making over 200 million RMB over two days. Director Chen Kaige had nothing but praise for Cheung Yung Yung's acting.

Cheung Yung Yung recently attended an event with Chen Kaige. She was grateful for Chen Kaige's attentive direction. "The director in the production was very strict, very demanding. He was so strict that every shot and expression he wanted was particularly detailed." Chen Kaige admitted, "Choosing Yung Yung to play Yang Guifei was a very risky choice, but her completion rate was really very high, very good." He also revealed that he put some thought into her original sound recording. Cheung Yung Yung also revealed that how happy she was to hear her own voice again. "The director adjusted the sound of every word and every sentence, he personally sounded it out for me so I could experience that feeling."

THE LEGEND OF THE DEMON CAT was Cheung Yung Yung's first costume film. She said that years ago when she worked on Huang Xuan on another film, she joked that, "My first costume film would definitely be with the most bullish director". She never expected that she would truly give her costume debut to Chen Kaige.

Cheung Yung Yung also said that the director provided a lot of help. "He wanted Yang Guifei to be elegant and mysterious. Inside she had to have a very full feeling." Actually the role of Yang Guifei in the film was turbulent inside, but Director Kaige asked her to hold back her emotions as her performance must be "light as the clouds and the wind". Whenever she interpreted the emotions that the director wanted, she had to wait for Chen Kaige's "good take" announcement. She would hide in a corner and cry for his character's pitiful situation.

Nick Cheung plays another tragic character

In recen months Alan Mak Siu Fai is planning for his direction, the Felix Chong Man Keung produced Emperor Motion Picture LIM JING FUNG WON (ICAC STORM). The story began with an illegal cigarette trade. The "soul character" was a widow who lost his daughter. With nothing to lose he truly was a typical tragic character. When Director Mak created the character he already felt that it had to be Nick Cheung Ka Fai. Reportedly Ka Fai considered the script after geting the script but finally Director Mak and the film company's sincerity moved him. With the potential of the character he signed the contract. He is getting ready for the role and would join the team after the Lunar New Year.

Ka Fai's "return" this time would be with Sean Lau Ching Wan. Karena Lam Ka Yung would join the fray as Ching Wan's wife. The couple was at a tug of war for their family or career. The new film will start production in March next year and plan to shoot on location in Australia. The entire film will take around 3 and a half months to shoot. The budget wil be HK$ 100 million. Director Mak said, "It will be my first collaboration with both Ka Fai and Ka Yun, I hope to be able to set off more spark. I feel the entire matter will be a lot of fun. The funniest is after Ching Wan got the scrip he said to me, 'I like my character because he is quite a jerk!'"

Peter Chan comforts Sandra Ng as she breaks down

courtesy of mingpao.com

Sandra Ng Kwan Yu recently has been busy promoting her directing debut GOLDBUSTER (YIU LING LING) in the Mainland. Two nights ago a premiere was held in Beijing. She and producer Peter Chan Ho Sun attended with the cast. Friends Huang Xiaoming and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung also showed their support. The premiere took place at the Communication University of China. Kwan Yu saw the good response of the students and sentimental spoke. She even succumbed to ears.

Kwan Yu said that she loved acting too much, loved comedy too much. In the past she told Chan Ho Sun that she wanted to make a movie in the Mainland, but he kept knocking the idea and said that she was out of touch with the local. The audience's impression of her was stuck as the star of Hong Kong. She did not give up and everyday she kept thinking that she must be able to make a comedy. The 52 year old Kwan Yu entered the second half of her life. She could start over. She thought that she had to fight once more for that fire inside, as she wanted to make a comedy without geographical restriction. During the shoot, producer Chan Ho Sun repeatedly warned her that without understanding the Mainland market making a movie that everyone would like would be very hard. The all new attempt of a comedy and horror mix like GOLDBUSTER was even harder than hard. Although she ran into numerous difficulties, she never backed down.

Sandra Ng Kwan Yu's directing debut GOLDBUSTER (YIU LING LING) two nights ago held its premiere. Leads Francis Ng Chun Yu, Alex Fong Chung Shun both appeared. Kwan Yu's father Ha Chun Yu and his wife, brother Ng Kwan Cheung and his girlfriend Elena Kong Mei Yee, Fama, Margie Tsang Wa Sin, Catherine Chau Ka Yi and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi also attended. Kwan Yu's friend Sammi Cheng Sau Man also showed her support. The new honorary doctorate Andy Lau Tak Wa even made a surprsie appearance and put the cap on Kwan Yu. She was very moved.

Lau Tak Wa's surprise appearance made the audience beyond excited. He presented a diploma to Ng Kwan Yu and put a cap on her head to congratulate her on becoming a director. Kwan Yu revealed that earlier she received "Dr. Lau"'s text message. "He said that he would support me at the premiere. I was very happy after finding out, so moved that I cried. This text messsage of him truly was a life saving call, because where I ran to the Mainland, even I had no idea where I was."

Wa Jai said that Kwan Yu became a director before he did. He said that he still had this directing dream. Kwan Yu said, "I don't want to make life more difficult for myself, only that women at this age wouldn't get any film offer. Men are different. They can keep working, defusing bombs or action scenes." Wa Jai encouraged Kwan Yu to continue her road. Although she would run into setback and most of the time she had to face it alone, she still had husband Peter Chan Ho Sun by her side. Kwan Yu was getting teary eyed and said that she understood very well. Finally Kwan Yu jokingly asked if Wa Jai has recovered from his back injury. "Is it better? Now are you 'great' everyday?" Wa Jai said, "It's better, but I haven't 'tried it' yet. I will tell you after I will."

Before the premiere Kwan Yu said that she has always wanted to make a film with horror and comedy elements. The support from friends everywhere was rare. How would she repay the two lead actors Fong Chung Shun and Ng Chun Yu? She said, "Speak up if you need anything, in this business we know love and loyalty." She also said that during the shoot the script was constantly changed, leaving actors completely helpless. She said "Trust me" the most, and she needed their trust to be able to finish the film.

Kwan Yu reportedly gave her parents no limit credit cards. She said, "I have always given them but they wouldn' use it. I said that since the money was hard earned, you should just spend at will. In the end I never had to pay the card bill. They would only use their own money. I suspect tha he truly won the lottery several times!" Kwan Yu supposedly was worth 300 million. She explained that most of it was invested on film. "Actually I haven't put any money in my pocket for three years. I didn't get a cent from several movies, so I hope the new film would be a hit. Then I would be worth several hundred millions more."

This year's second Hong Kong music report card, Metro Hit Awards 2017 last night took place at the Convention Center in Wanchai. The entire event presented 61 awards, an increase from 55 last year. In the end Hacken Lee Hak Kun won three and a half awards, "Hit Singer of the Year", "Hit Airplay Index", "Hit Performance" and "Hit Duet". Jason Chan Pak Yu, Ivana Wong Yuen Chi and Janice Vidal (Wai Lan) tightly followed with three awards each. James Ng Yip Kwan won two and a half awards, Pakho Chau, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Alfred Hui Ting Hung, Alex To Tak Wai each won two awards. "Breaking ice" with Metro this year, Emperor records won eight and a half awards.

This year's Hit slogan was "spread with music", hoping through the invisible power of music to break through all differences and obstacles for the songs' messages to keep spreading in the hearts of the general public. At the same time it wishes a full bloom for Hong Kong music, and continue to spread positive energy with songs. For this year's theme, Metro arranged for bands to performed a medley of the Hit Song of the Year selections from 1994 to 2016 to open the award show.

Hacken Lee this year won three major awards, including singer of the year, airplay index and performance award. In addition he also won a duet award for VINYL with RubberBand member Number 6 to become the big winner among male singers.

Last year this award show lacked record company support. This year the situation seemed to have improved. The audience admission rate reached 70%. With 8 awards last year, Universal records this year did not send any singer to attend. Instead Emperor "broke the ice" with the event. Its singer Deep Ng Ho Hong has not won an award in years won a song award with EARLIER RECORDED.

When Deep accepted the award, he admitted that he has not attended such an event in years. He thanked Metro and his record company. He knew that the company helped him a lot this year. He also happily said that he had another chance to accept an award on behalf of his colleagues.

Among the female singers Wai Lan and Wong Yuen Chi tied for the lead with three awards. The former with NATURAL ENEMY won a song award as well as Hit Female Singer and Hit Excellent Performance Singer; also one of three Hit Female singer, Wong Yuen Chi wiht SUDDENLY A LIFETIME won a song award. She also won a Hit Creative Singer award.

Wai Lan not only thanked the Heavenly Father but also her company colleagues for their help, because this year has not been easy for her. She had to adjust to the changes in her voice and spend time to get to know herself anew. Now that she was still able to have such a performance she was already very grateful. Dressed in black, Wong Yuen Chi hung a doll in front of her chest. She said that she was very grateful for SUDDENLY A LIFETIME's song award. She never expected that after 12 years in the business she still had the chance to accept song related awards.

Earlier the Voice Entertainment's singers were rumored to be skipping this award show, but Pakho Chau appeared. He even received a song award and a male singer award. Perhaps because his management company was StarzPeople he was special. When Pakho accepted the song award for HEAVENLY NET, he admitted that he never expected to be on the stage. He luckily was able to run into a good character in the series LINE WALKER THE PRELUDE. He not only thanked The Voice Entertainment and StarzPeople bu also his former record company Warner.

Despite his rising popularity at the end of the year, Hubert Wu Hung Kwan went home empty handed. Even more surprising was the Voice Entertainment executive Ho Jik To winning the Hit producer with Chow Shek Han for HEAVENLY NET. However Ho Jik To was unable to attend.

Chan Pak Yu opened the show with Excellent Performance Singer and Hit Song awards. Jason admitted that these two awards had special meaning to him. The excellent performance award was just right for encouraging him for his Hong Kong Coliseum concert this year, because he ruly spent a lot of energy and time to prepare. On and off stage he felt pressure that he has never come in contact with for the first time. The second award was related to his marriage, because he originally planned to sing DOMINATING LOVE SONG to only his wife. It was a memory for them.

As for Mandarin songs, To Tak Wai with YOU ARE IN MY LOVE won the Hit Mandarin Power Song award. He also won the Hit Mandarin Power Singer award. This year Metro announced Hit 12 Music Power with many new faces in music, including Fabel, Kris Law Kai Chung, JUDE, Mischa Ip Hau Lam, Alan Po (Bo Chi Lun), J.Arie, Angela Hui Ching Wan, Tang Siu Hau, Jocelyn Chan Ming Hin, ReVe, Merry Lamb Lamb and Sukie Shek Wing Lei.

Getting married yesterday, Shek Wing Lei was unable to accept the 12 Music Power award in person but sent a video. She thanked Metro for giving her an award on her special day.

Starting the show for Metro, Nancy Sit Ka Yin last year appeared with a coronation robe. This year she was dressed in deep blue. Host Ricky Fan Chun Fung joked that she was celebrating Halloween. When the band Dear Jane performed on the stage, guitarist Howie had guitar problems and made no sound. Chan Pak Yu, Pakho Chau and others reminded him before the sound came back. Howie then asked the audience to applaud Jason and joked that his bandmate Tim's wife was not in Hong Kong. He said that Tim would very soon go and look for his wife.

With two Mandarin Power awards To Tak Wai was absent but sent a video. He regretted that he could not attend but the video was cut before it finished. Sister Ka Yin joked that he had more to say. Host Fan Chun Fung said that To Tak Wai had a throat ailment. Yun Yi just recovered from her leg injury and was extra careful when she went to the stage. The crew gave her a hand when she took the stairs.

Playing a couple in HEART AND GREED 3, Michael Tong Man Lung who cheated on her in the show asked Bianca Wu Lam if she would forgive him. Wu Lam joked that he had to let her feel his chest before she would! She then stuck out her hand and felt Tong's chest. This year's new comer awards as last year were all female singers. They went to Sophy Wong Ka Yi, Emily Chun Hing Man and Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling.

Director Benny Lau Wai Hung two nights ago attended a forum and shared with young people how he went from radio DJ to director. He said "Although I am a new director, I made two movies WONG KA YAN and SUN, MOON, STAR (MAU YUN MAU YUET, formerly YUN YUET SING)." He also said that WONG's Mainland response was better than expected. Mainland viewers really liked the Hong Kong nostalgia and thus he would persist with the style. Would he make a sequel? He revealed that he was considering working with the original team again. "I haven't dared to call (Karena) Ng Chin Yu and Wong Yau Nam. (Are you afraid of Chin Yu's rate hike?) Chin Yu's rate hike would make me happier, as it would prove that she has box office draw."

Justin Cheung Kin Sing, Eric Kwok Wai Leung, Jennifer Yu Heung Yi and Tsui Ho Cheong starred in the film RHAPSODY OF KIDNAPPING (3 GOR BONG FEI 7 TIU SUM), which will open in mid January. Yesterday they promoted at a shopping center. In the film Yu Heung Yi's character was an authentic Hong Kong woman, when coaxing someone or asking for a favor her voice would go up several octaves. Her boyfriend Carlos Chan Ka Lok liked that very much. She said, "I used to feel that girls don't need to deliberately change their voice and play cute, but the older I got the more I feel that this move could actually make love even sweeter. He is more than attentive to me, the most important is he treats my family great. I give him a score of 99, leaving 1 point as room for improvement."

Cheung Kin Sing in the film played a kidnapper. He has imagined being one when he was little. This time he dyed his hair for the film and suffered severe hair loss. He was not worried about being bald yet. He joked that friends made fun of him, saying that people named Justin usually were very talented -- just like Justin Lo (Juk Tin).

The 2017 TVB JADE SOLID GOLD AWARDS took place last night at the Tseung Kwan O Television City. Ths year 38 awards were presented, a little less than 45 last year. At the same time, this year "the highest popularity singer award" was added and the past "Most Popular Male and Female Singer Awards" were merged into the "Most Popular Singer Award". Last night attending singers included Hacken Lee Hak Kun, Pakho Chau, Hana Kuk Chi Kiu, Vincy Chan (Wing Yi), Ken Hung Cheuk Lap, Mag Lam Yun Tung, JW, Huber Wu Hung Kwan, James Ng Yip Kwan and others. In the end the Most Popular Singer was Lee Hak Kun. The "Voice Entertainment Gang" as expected became the big winner with 14 awards.

Since several years ago TVB and the four major record companies parted ways over royalty disputes, in recent years JADE SOLID GOLD only had the support of Emperor singers, the Voice Entertainment and other record company's young singers. Thus last night Emperor and the Voice Entertainment singers were seated in the front row. The Voice Entertainment singers like Pakho Chau, Kuk Chi Kiu, Wu Hung Kwan, Stephanie Ho Ngan Sze at the center on one side, while on the other were Wing Yi, Hung Cheuk Lap and others.

Joining the Voice Entertainment this year, Pakho Chau was the first singer to win the song award. Ho Ngan Sze followed. When she accepted that way she said, "This year I have experienced a lot of good and not so good things, I hope my songs and as a person from now on would improve everyday with every song."

Coming home with a "goose egg" from the Metro Hit Awards, Wu Hung Kwan received strong support from the event. His record was said to be hard to get, his nude scene from THE EXORCISTS' METER was shown. He also won two song awards for I WAS HERE and JUST A FRIEND. When he accepted his award he admitted that this year was a special year because he had a lot of new attempts in music. "JUST A FRIEND originally wasn't mine, but I ended up in my hands. I appreciate my team for trusting me."

Rumored to be upset at Metro Hit Awards and skipped it, JW last night also received a song award. She denied the rumor backstage. "Because I have to rehearse for my concert, I really didn't have time to go. I didn't even go to my family's and my boyfriend's Christmas party. I wasn't petty either. As a singer as long as I make good music I am happy. The award is a bonus. I am OK without it too." Metro did not invite her to send a video. JW said, "I didn't know I have to, I just listened to the company's arrangement. I don't mnd, every year the award shows are singers' gathering for me."

Was she upset that Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Janice Vidal (Wai Lan) and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi won? JW said, "I can't possibly be upset, every year there have been only a few awards, winning every year is impossible. I too hope music is in full bloom, in addition their songs are great. Even Gin Lee and AGA didn't win but this year they work very hard. Singers aren't just about awards."

When duet awards were announced, Vincent Wong Ho Shun shared two awards with Hana Kuk Chi Kiu and Kayee Tam. Ho Shun was surprised and sentimental. "I started as a singer, for the award I have to thank the company and my two colleagues. I hope Cantonese songs will continue on. I am the most sorry about forgetting elder (Lowell) Lo Koon Ting's name. I have been so busy with a series that I haven't even had the time to sleep. This time I come to accept the awards at the last second, I am not at my best either."

He also forgot to thank his wife in his speech. Ho Shun said, "That's right, actors instead would think of what they would say in advance. This time I really didn't have time to think. Of course I have to thank my wife. She gave me space to work, next time I would remember." Would he consider a record release? He said that nowadays music no longer needs to release a record. Music could be shared in other ways. The most important was to surprise everyone.

Kayee Tam with the WALK WITH YOU solo version won a song award. When she performed this song she got teary eyed.

This year's Jade Solid Gold hosts got younger, as the show daringly went with Louisa Mak Ming Sze, Crystal Fung Ying Ying and Lok Ho Ming. Louisa was inevitably nervous for her first big show and was a little stiff. With her braces, when she explained the votes were counted under accountant supervision she said "acchicken" instead and made the audience laugh.

When the show started, the five former Miss Hong Kong pageant contestants formed "five little flowers" Jacqueline Wong Sum Ying, Sisley Choi Si Bui, Veronica Shiu Pui Sze, Fung Ying Ying and Bowie Cheung performed the hit song I WAS HERE, but Sum Ying and Bowie were obviously lip synching poorly. After their performance the new comer awards were announced. The gold, silver and bronze prize went to Vivian Koo (Kuk Me), Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling and Alvin Ng Fu Kiu.

In addition, when JW and Ng Yip Kwan's ACTUALLY ONLY BECAUSE OF DEEP LOVE was announced as the Best Duet silver prize winner, Ying Ying said that this song gave Brother Kwan a rumor. In the audience Wu Hung Kwan immediately guessed that Brother Kwan and immediately shook his hand. JW sat between them and blocked them with her hand in a funny way.

Veteran actor Jiang Han (originally named Chiang Wing Ming) earlier in the month passed away from illness at the nursing home at age 79. His family yesterday held a viewing at the Universal Funeral Parlor. The funeral would take place today and the remains would then be transported to the Cape Collinson Crematorium. Jiang Han's altar was simple yet elegant. He was in a black suit and had a kind smile in his photo.

Many in the business came to pay their respect yesterday, including Paul Chun Pui, Fong Ping, Nine Paw (Bau Hei Jing), Law Lok Lam and others. Chun Pui revealed that he and Jiang Han were friends. He clarified that although his late friend liked to drink, he was not an alcoholic. He believed that he passed from other illness. Speaking of their history, Chun Pui revealed that Jiang Han's father Chiang Ming and mother Tung Ngai were both actors. His wife Wong Siu Yin was also in the business. Chiang Ming and Chun's father Yim Fa were sworn brothers so they already had a relationship of two generations. He has always called Jiang Han older brother.

Bau He Jing also already knew Jiang Han when she was young. She still could not accept his passing and said that at age 15 when she made a movie she already had scenes with her. Jiang Han was 11 years older than her. Although he was an idol he was very friendly. They often dined and played together, and he was always like an older brother to her. Sister Bau said, "The most worthy lesson from him was he has never talked gossip about anyone in his life, he would only encourage others."

Yesterday (December 30th) was the 14th anniversary of the superstar of a generation Anita Mui Yim Fong's passing. Mui fans two nights ago remembered their idol in different ways, watching Ah Mui's films, paying their respect at Ah Mui's spirit tablet at the Shang Sin Chun Tong, presenting flowers at Ah Mui's statue in Tsim Sha Tsui, as time has not eased how much they missed their idol. Ah Mui's mother Tam Mei Kam two nights ago went to the movies to watche her daughter's film KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO. She said that she missed her daughter very much, sometimes she would see her when she would be half awaken. Someone also said that Ah Mui has become the god daughter of the Goddess of Mercy, which put her at ease.

Ah Mui's fan organization Mui Nation two nights ago held a screening of KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO at a Central cinema. The 94 year old Mother Mui came with clutches. She said earlier she injured her right left from a fall. Her son Mui Kai Ming was unable to accompany her due to knee pain. Mother Ma admitted that she has not attended an event in a long time. Normally when she went out for tea she would need a wheelchair. She would stay home and play mahjong; this time she came not only to be a part of the crowd but also took the opportunity to enjoy this movie again. The last time she saw this movie was years ago and forgot a lot of it.

Did she still miss Ah Mui? Mother Mui said, "I miss her so much that I don't! It's been so many years, occasionally when I am half awake I would see her. I know that she told my doctor and friends to take care of me; someone also told me that they saw Ah Mui practicing next to the Goddess of Mercy and learned that she was the Goddess' god daughter. Thus I am very at ease."

Yesterday a big group of fans went to Ah Mui's spiritual tablet at the Shang Sin Chun Tong in Kowloon Tong. Fans prepared their idol's favorite custard tart, honey cake, sushi and other food. Six floral arrangements from fans were placed under the altar. Some fans also went to Ah Mui's spiritual tablet at the Lautau Island.

At 5 PM, a dozen or so Mui fans went to present flowers at her statue in Tsim Sha Tsui, prayed and took photos to remember their idol. During the group photo, the presence of 14 fans was the same number as how many years since Ah Mui passed. Two fans from Beijing said that they have been fans for 7 years and praised how Ah Mui lived was worth learning from, with her kind and helpful heart. The most memorable for them was Ah Mui's 2003 farewell concert, which they constantly watched again and again; they also liked her performance in the films KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO and WU YAN.

The Anita Mui International Fan Club president Ms. So took part in the planning of the film screening of ROUGE, which took part at one of the film's location -- under the Shek Tong Tsui overpass. Over 200 Mui fans attended. Ms. So said that they applied for the outdoor screening with the government. Although it was the first, she felt that holding it at this location had special meaning. They also received the assistance from many volunteers, thus they did not spend much on preparation. Next year would be the 15th anniversary of Ah Mui's passing. They had plans for other events but no format has been set.

ROUGE's director Stanley Kwan Kam Peng also attended. "I felt that she never left, only immigrated to a very faraway place. She hardly ever came back. This film made everyone remember Ah Mui and (Leslie) Cheung Kwok Wing, they would always remind in everyone's hearts." He recalled that back then Ah Mui was very serious and in character. He said that Ah Mui had a lot of natural talent and organization abilities, as she was able to gather all workers to watch playback together.

Sandra Ng Kwan Yu yesterday attended the audience appreciation event at a Mongkok cinema for her directing debut GOLDBUSTER (YIU LING LING). Kwan Yu said, "The movie made over 200 million at the Mainland box office, but not so good at the Hong Kong box office. So I have to promote." She also said that she was not disappointed. She already felt very lucky about the Mainland box office success.

To promote the new film, Kwan Yu revealed that she has gone to a dozen Mainland cities for two weeks straight and over 100 cinemas. She often forgot where she lay her head down. Hong Kong would be the final stop. Due to all the traveling she did not feel well. Later she would rest.

Speaking of the box office, Kwan Yu said that the film made over 200 million in the Mainland but not as well in Hong Kong. Everyone might feel that was normal, perhaps due to fewer cinema circuits and a lot of blockbuster releases. She could only do as much as she could. Would she not arrange for a major slot release next time? Kwan Yu said, "Originally I plan for a Ghost Festival release but I couldn't finish it in time. Maybe everyone was used to watching foreign films at Christmas and Hong Kong films at Lunar New Year. It's fate and luck, you can't say for sure. (Are you disappointed?) No because the Mainland opening box office was great. As a 'Chicken Little' director I already feel very lucky, OK, I passed."

As for her second film, she said that she would have to rest a little first. She had to wait for inspiration and keep an eye on the market. Did her daughter act up because she was busy with work? She said, "I told her 'Mommy would be with you after today.' She rolled her eye and said, 'Today is the last day'. (Her wit is quicker than yours?) I hope so, because Ma's quick wit is starting to slow."

Kwan Yu yesterday gave everyone blessing yesterday at the movies as her character Sister Ling. She said, "The audience is very passionate and very pleased, only my daughter feels that my character isn't ugly enough. I am a great beauty, next time I will tell her to play it. She can play ugly herself, but her acting is......ha ha."

Best Actor Anthony Wong Chau Sun earlier went to England to work on a series. After returning to Hong Kong he immediately jumped into the new film production LUN LOK YUN (FALLEN PEOPLE). Earlier he and Sam Lee Chan Sam worked on location at a Oi Man Estate park. He played a stroke patient and sat in a wheelchair for the entire shoot.

Chau Sun was in short sleeves and worked on a chat scene with Lee Chan Sam. The temperature was only 13 or 14 degrees Celsius. In a wheelchair Chau Sun was shivering from the cold as he often covered his chest with his arms and rubbed them to keep warm. After over a hour he rushed into a big coat to keep warm.

Later Chau Sun and Lee Chan Sam worked on a chess scene. He and the crew studied the script and watched playback. His nose was running and he needed tissue. Chau Sun said that although it was cold, he was still able to take it. Lee Chan Sam said, "Earlier we shot a bathing scene with Chau Sun, that day was even colder."

Commercial Radio Ultimate Song Chart Awards took place on New Year's Day. Hacken Lee Hak Kun who has had no lucky with the Ultimate awards struck strongly this year, as he won his first Ultimate Music Male Singers gold prize and Ultimate Music Ultimate Song award in 30 years. Inevitably he got sentimental when he accepted the awards, as he tearfully thanked his mentor and friend Alan Tam Wing Lun, "I believe you would be happy for me!"

The 2017 Ultimate Song Chart Awards last night presented 43 awards. With 30 years in the business Lee Hak Kun this year has swept across many award shows to become the big winner this year. In the past Ultimate Awards usually brushed him by. This year he finally broke through with Ultimate Music Male Singer gold prize and Ultimate Music Ultimate Song award, the "first time" for Hacken Lee after waiting for 30 years.

Hacken inevitably got sentimental on the stage. When DJ Donald and Jim brought up his past "suit comment", he got teary eyed as he stared at the award, shook his head and sighed. Hacken compared this time to the Oscars. "Some singers would be nominated every year and would win every other year like Meryl Streep. Some people are always nominated but the award always brushes them by. Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for years and finally was recognized with an award. I of course know I am not Leonardo. I am more like Clint Eastwood. No one would remember that he has won or now, but winning the Male Singer gold prize at this age would probably be worth everyone's applause! Thank you!" He stated that he never wanted to be the ultimate in music, he only wanted to be a good friend to everyone. He asked everyone not be to scared off by his arrogant expression, he was full of passion and sentiment inside.

Having been in the top three Ultimate Music Female Singer for 17 years straight, Joey Yung Cho Yi finally broke the streak as Janice Vidal (Wai Lan) won her first gold prize. Silver and bronze prizes went to Gin Lee Hung Ngai and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi. Wai Lan said that she waited for this award for 12 years. She thanked her father, sister Jill (Wai Sze) and former boss Leon Lai Ming.

Jason Chan Pak Yu defeated the two year winner James Ng Yip Kwan to win "My Favorite Male Singer". He won two awards. The always cool Pak Yu got teary eyed and thanked his wife Leanne Fu Hiu Mei. "My old lady every year would tell me it doesn't matter, 'It doesn't matter that everyone misses out, you are already the favorite male singer of my heart!' Thank you Old Lady!"

In terms of quantity, the band Supper Moment was the big winner with 3 awards. The pre race online favorite Hubert Wu Hung Kwan went home empty handed.

This year is Ultimate's 30th anniversary, the theme of which is "Reminiscing for Tomorrow". Bands Supper Moment and Chockukmo opened the show. Soon Nicholas Tse Ting Fung made a surprise appearance on the stage. He in a casual look performed JADE BUTTERFLY, WITH FIRE and LIVING VIVA as the audience stood up and screamed like mad.

The last time Ting Fung appeared at an award show as the 2005 Metro Mandarin Power Award. 13 years later, Ting Fung dropped his spatula for an electric guitar. Although the sound system malfunctioned and his guitar did not make a sound, Ting Fung was not only in a great mood but also comforted the audience. "This is live!" After his performance Ting Fung embraced the two bands' lead vocalists and said, "From this moment on, reminisce for tomorrow!" Ting Fung will fly to Beijing for his new record press conference and release new songs later.

Eason Chan Yik Shun has not attended an award show in years. Last night he appeared as a guest performer. With Jan Lamb Hoi Fung's narration, Eason performed classic hits like MY HAPPY AGE, ONE AND ONLY, TOURBILLON to bring together the classic scenes from 30 years of the Ultimate Awards.

Charmaine Fong Ho Man announced earlier that she was over 3 months pregnant on social media. Yeserday she appeared in public for the first time but still wore 4 inch heels to the awards. The DJs joked that they had to arrange a "priority seat" for her. When she accepted her award DJs came to lend her a hand and congratulated her on double happiness.

at17 put a photo from early in their career on their clothes to commemorate their 15th anniversary in the business. This was also their first Ultimate Top Ten song award.

Phil Lam Yik Hong received the Ultimate Creative Singer gold prize. He said that after 8 years in the business the award this year was particularly meaningful. Actually he did not pick up his Hong Kong permanent resident identity card officially until this year. He said, "Many singers say getting on this stage is very hard, and indeed it is; because in the first few years I didn't even have Hong Kong residency. I constantly had to get visas. This year I finally get to accept this award as a Hong Konger. I am very proud to be a Hong Konger. I hope to keep writing good songs for everyone."

When Alfred Hui Ting Hung received the Ultimate Top Ten second place, he could not stop sobbing. Friends Ng Yip Kwan and Joyce Cheng Yun Yi immediately embraced them to comfort him.

When Alfred accepted the award, he spoke as he cried. This actually was already the fourth year in a row that Alfred broke down at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards.

Ivana Wong Yuen Chi in the Lunar New Year film A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT (NGOR DIK CHING DIK NUI SAI) played Carina Lau Ka Ling's daughter Ka Kei and again became the bright spot of a film. One scene was even shot on the Lunar July 14th "Ghost Festival" in an old building. In the story Alex Fong Lik Sun and Wong Yuen Chi dressed up to create a scary atmosphere to frighten away tennants who would not move. They appeared as a vampire and a ghost doll, with horror film mainstays ghost king Simon Louie Yu Yeung and dragon granny Helena Law Lan. Wong Yuen Chi gave her all for the film as she jumped off a building. She not only had to dress up but also had wire work. In addition, both Fong Lik Sun and Stephy Tang Lai Yun guest starred in this film.

Leon Lai Ming's directing debut WINE WAR (CHEUNG HUNG) will open on the 18th. First time director Lai Ming of course would want his film to be its best. To be able to complete such a multiple country treasure hunt and gun fight film, Lai Ming once said, "Because I have worked with many excellent directors before, I accumulated a lot of experience. Today I am able to have this chance to make a movie that I feel particularly interested in. I couldn't do it without a group of great actors and crew to complete this matter." He asked pouplar Mainland actors to star and at the same time paid close attention to all the production problems of the flm. The strong crew also solidified the film's high quality. Speaking of Lai Ming's directing debut, producer Huang Jianxin's evaluation of him was, "He doesn't resemble a first time director, instead he resembles a professional director more. His demands on the set are very detailed, each shot has to be its best."

For his first film as director, of course he was highly demanding but at the same time he did not lose his sense of humor. Although the scenes were thrilling and the mystery intriguing, he did not forget the comedy. He did not waste his nature humor gene at all. Lai Ming and Zhang Hanyu both had heavy comedic sense. To promote the film, Zhang Hanyu and Lai Ming even sang the film song BIG BABY in hopes of bringing the audience a Happy New Year.
