[2018.06.25] CARLOS CHAN GETS HAND FROM THE SUPERNATURAL IN MALAYSIA

Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Bryant Mak Chi Lok and Carmen Soup (Tong Ka Man) recently worked together on BUYER BEWARE (GUK OK). The trio while shooting in Malaysia ran into supernatural incidents. Chan Ka Lok said that in one scene he was shooting photos with a mobile phone at an unit. Due to an angle issue, he thought, "It would be great if someone would prop up my arm!" Then he really felt a force propping up his arm. After the shoot he realized no one was around. At the time he was a little scared, but he felt that someone was helping him.

In addition, Chan Ka Lok could not help but complain about the shoot. "I was sick for a long time when I made this film, toothache, fever and voice loss. I even had to see a dentist there. Several scenes even needed post production voice work. Everyone said that I was like that because I didn't participate in the worship ceremony, but as a Christian I couldn't." Mak Chi Lok and Tong Ka Man went to the casino on their free time. They said that they have never won money before, that day they bet on their hotel room number and won.

In the film they were all being scared. Would they like to try scaring people in their next horror film? Chan Ka Lok turned it down right away and said that special effect make up was quite a pain. He said that once he saw an actress' special effect make up that really had something burrowing in her arm. It was terrifying! Mak Chi Lok would like the chance to try special effect make up. Tong Ka Man wanted to be pretty. She said that this time she was possessed. She saw that her expressions were all very frightening. In addition, Chan Ka Lok in the film had a passionate scene and showed off his physique. He said that when he got the script it did not have any bed scene. Later the director felt it was needed. He happened to be working out for other jobs so it was perfect for the performance. As for how passionate the bed scene was, he said that everyone would find out at the movies.

[2018.06.26] DAYS OF BEING WILD OPENS IN THE MAINLAND FOR THE FIRST TIME

Media Asia recently announced that the Wong Kar Wai directed DAYS OF BEING WILD (AH FEI JING JUEN) starting yesterday was released in Mainland theaters for the first time. Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing, Maggie Cheung Man Yuk, Carina Lau Ka Ling, Andy Lau Tak Wa and Jacky Cheung Hok Yau starred, and Tony Leung Chiu Wai guest starred. Viewers who have not seen the film at the cinema could enjoy this classic on the silver screen. Wong Kar Wai said, "The no leg bird is still flying." Best Actress nominee Lau Ka Ling also would like viewers to watch it at the movies. "Because aside from the story, the visual art was very classic as well."

Carina Lau Ka Ling and Tse Kwan Ho's play WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION will begin its run next month. In the play they would play a couple and have their share of intimate scenes. Although they have not rehearsed those scenes yet, Ka Ling boldly stated that she would have no problem with going as far as some LUST, CAUTION (SIK GAI) scenes. At the time she was her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai's temporary manager, she would arrange for Wai Jai to wach her rehearsal and performance to elevate his interest in the stage. She even looked forward to him and Kwan Ho performing on the stage together.

Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Bryant Mak Chi Lok and Carmen Soup (Tong Ka Man) two nights ago attended the horror film BUYER BEWARE (GUK OK) premiere. Mak Chi Lok said that because of the film he developed a brotherly relationship with Chan Ka Lok. "We worked on location in Malaysia. Ka Lok got sick and lost his voice and everyday I brought him medicine. I went to the Genting casino with Tong Ka Man on our free time and won several hundred bucks. We bought durian to celebrate but Ka Lok couldn't have any." Mak Chi Lok praised Chan Ka Lok for being handsome and refined. He hoped to have a chance to work together again in the future. Outside work they also became friends as they often met for sports and leisure. Did the recently heartbroken Chan Ka Lok have any heart to heart talk with him? Mak Chi Lok said, "Rarely, we get it so I wouldn't ask. I would only keep him company."

Chan Ka Lok returned his strange experience while shooting the film in Malaysia for two weeks, as he had fever, sore throat and wisdom tooth problems. He did not even have the voice to deliver his lines. Once he returned to Hong Kong he was fine. He said, "Luckily Chi Lok was experienced and reacted from reading my lips. I thank him for taking care of me, but an argument scene would require further voice work." Chan Ka Lok said that this film was his and Mak Chi Lok's comeback film. "We didn't make a lot of movies before, but when we made this film another director asked us to perform."

Michelle Wai Sze Nga yesterday was a guest at a medical beauty store opening. This year she has been working nonstop. Wai Sze Nga said that recently she has been working on the film JOI GEIN UFO, in which she played a goddess in love with Tsui Tin Yau. Then she would work on another film THE WHITE STORM 2 (SO DUK 2). She said, "In this one I will play a cop, the character is really very different. However I finally get to work with Lau Tak Wa (Andy), which is every actor's dream. When I see Lau Tak Wa I probably will be very nervous. In the film we will have scenes together.     An epidemic threat of an infectious fatal disease broke out in Malaysia. The threat drew international attention immediately. In such a desperate time, the World Health Organization did not object the use of a new medicine manufactured by Amanah, a pharmaceutical firm with international acclaim, before the medicine passed the authorities' examination.

    In the heat of the epidemic, a Malaysian journalist and the eldest son of the chairman of Amanah, Teo Chun Loong,were found dead in a sudden. Although primafacie evidence showed that both were suicide cases, Malaysian police officer Lee Weng Kan suspected the two men were murdered. As Teo Chun Loong’s wife fled to Hong Kong right after her husband's death, Lee Weng Kan went to Hong Kong and joined a Hong Kong police officer, David Wong, to further the investigation.

The Fox Media Group and Penguin Pictures joint release, Andy Lau Tak Wa produced, Wong Kwok Keung directed original mini series THE TRADING FLOOR last night held a celebration banquet and announced its second season will soon begin production. Wa Jai hoped for the original team to return. He joked that he would wait until the third season to participate.

Wa Jai, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Joseph Chang, Maggie Cheung Ho Yee, Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Poon Chan Leung yesterday attended the banquet. Wa Jai revealed that currently he is busy with his new film THE WHITE STORM 2 (SO DUK 2). Every week he worked for four days, a normal work rate. Because he had to work, Wa Jai put more effort into maintaining himself. "Don't you feel I am back to being handsome again?" Aside from movies, Wa Jai also had to prepare for his year end concert. Recently he was even invited to be an Oscar voter. "I have been invited, I haven't seen the qualifying films yet. Any voter who has not seen the qualifying films would not be qualified to vote. My language ability is okay, but Cantonese is rather hard." Chun Yu said, "Using all new language in a performance actually is rather dangerous."

The film A WITNESS OUT OF THE BLUE (FAN JUI YIN CHEUNG) yesterday started production. Producer Derek Yee Tung Sing, director Fung Chih Chiang (Fung Chi Keung), actors Louis Koo Tin Lok, Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Andy Tien (On Chi Kit), Philip Keung Ho Man, Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen), Ling Man Lung, Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling, Fiona Sit Hoi Kei and Chan Kwok Bong attended the worship ceremony. Suen Huen said that this time she would suffer Koo Tin Lok's torture, as she was afraid that he would kick her off the stairs!

Playing a couple with Koo Tin Lok in the film, Suen Huen said, "We are the cute pair, not an usual one!" Goo Jai also said that they in the film had a love hate relationship. When asked if they would have any intimate scene, Suen Huen said no because in the film her romance with Goo Jai would only be decoration. Goo Jai also said that this would be the most realistic crime film, thus he would wait until the next film BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) to add intimate scenes.

Suen Huen continued that this time she had to play a visually impaired character. In the past she has played blind and went to a school for the blind to get an understanding, but this time sh would not. She also revealed that in the film before they started dating, Goo Jai had a scene in which he had to beat her. "We will have to see how rough he will get. The script also says that I am powerless to strike back. For over a decade he hasn't done anything vicious. This time I am afraid that he will kick me off the stairs! I hope he will know to hold back, because I used to be very focused and would hit for real. I would be afraid of hurting my co-star." Sh also said that in order to handle this scene, she would first work out to prepare to get hit.

Goo Jai said that in the film he played a robber who was planning to rob a jewelry store and would shoot a robbery scene at a busy intersection. He has already applied for the required road blocks and probably would have a big scale and realistic shoot, because he would carry a machine gun to the robbery. Earlier a prop manager was sentenced for prop currency. Would the film use prop cash or avoid the trouble entirely? Goo Jai responded, "We won't avoid it, and it doesn't matter. We are robbing a jewelry store, and before get the jewelry we are already killing people!"

Cheung Kai Chung would play a cop this time. Yesterday he shot an injured look after a fight with the robbers. He said that the film would have a lot of heavyweight action and gun fights. He would try to perform the stunts himself, but if his performance would not be on par as the stunt actors he would not waste the team's time. In addition, a bird in the film was the key to solving the case. Thus Ah Chung had to ask a bird expert Lau Sum Yau for help. Sum Yau said that now she is learning to be with the bird and it is being trained to learn Cantonese. Reporters joked that would Sum Yau also have to learn Cantonese as well? She said, "I have to learn the tone of an expert, the pronunciation would be harder so I need time to prepare." Ah Chung said that he was afraid of birds. On Chi Kit recently became a father again. He admitted that he was still very happy, he would wake up with a smile every morning. As soon as he got up he would play with his son. She knew to take care of her brother, so he relaxed very quickly. Does his son have a Chinese name yet? Andy said that his mother would ask a master to come up with a name. Would he try for another? The late make up master Chan Man Fai's second son Chan Chi Tat yesterday morning passed away at age 56. Chan Chi Tat followed in his father's foot step and has been in the make up business for over 30 years. He worked for TVB and HKTV and was ATV's senior make up supervisor. Chan Chi Tat two days ago was hospitalized for acute pneumonia and passed away yesterday morning.

Chan Chi Tat was respected in show business. Aside from him following in his father's footstep and becoming a make up artist, his son with his ex former, Chan Ka Wai, is also a film special effect make up artist.

Director Dante Lam Chiu Yin appeared at the New York Asian Film Festival with OPERATION RED SEA, THE BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) and UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN) and received great treatment from the event. To recognize Director Lam's talent and proud achievements, the New York Asian Film Festival presented the Daniel A Craft Award to him, his best birthday present this year.

"Because this time THE BEAST STALKER and UNBEATABLE are also being screened, THE BEAST STALKER was a movie that few foresaw would be a hit. Ten years later, I am bringing THE BEAST STALKER, UNBEATABLE and OPERATION RED SEA together, I feel extra sentimental. When I got on stage just now, I got a little choked up and needed to pause for half a second."

This trip happened to take place during Director Lam's birthday (July 1st), but due to the tight schedule he could only celebrate with producer Leung Fung Ying and the team at dinner. "I didn't have time to stay and sightsee. Earlier I went to Los Angeles and had several meetings with foreign companies to discuss any possibility of working together. we even discussed which latest technologies to use. At the same time I also saw some not yet released new films, to see if I have any chance to try with possible sequels."

In recent years superhero films ruled the global market. How exciting would they be if they fell into Director Lam's hands? He said, "Actually we talked about some famous film series and whether we could take them off. We still need to continue to explore that. However I have to stress, completely jumping into the U.S. production format is not too suitable. I am interested in this subject, the problem is it would need to have our elements. Our actors won't be guest stars, they have to have roles!"

Sam Hui Koon Kit and Alan Tam Wing Lun yesterday rehearsed for their August concerts. Sam played the guitar and sang MOST BELOVED YOU and ANSER AT THE EDGE OF THE SKY. Alan joked that it was Sam's Alan Tam song.

During the interview, Alan gave Sam a massage and joked, "Your shoulder is a little stiff, are you working out too much?" How was their rehearsal going? Alan said that it was as smooth as playing soccer. Sam said that yesterday was his first day at rehearsal. Alan pointed out that the band has already been practicing for a few days and he had the hard task of supervising. As for song selection, Alan revealed that only a few would be the same as the last time. "Sam Gor opens up the archive, they flood in like tidal wave!"

After finishing their Hong Kong concerts in August, Sam and Alan will continue their overseas tours in the U.S., Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Alan said that this year he would merge into Sam's family. Sam nodded and said, "We have become one family!"

Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Wong Jing recently worked together on many different genre films and trained new comers on and off camera. Their new film BIG BROTHER (DAI SI HING) was Yen Chi Tan's Super Bullet Limited company and Mega Vision film and television production company joint production. It also was the Super Bullet Limited's first production. Yen Chi Tan gave his full support as executive producer, producer and actor to ensure quality all around. BIG BROTHER did not disappoint as it was selected to be the 22nd Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival's closing film and compete in the Cheval Noir Competition.

Yen Chi Tan and Wong Jing were very excited to hear the news. Yen Chi Tan said, "This is my company's first release, I am extremely encouraged that it can participate in this international film festival." Wong Jing even asked Yen Chi Tan to attend the film festival together. Because the film will make its August 1st global premiere and closing film at the film festival, the team was banging their heads against the wall to see if they could make time for Yen Chi Tan to attend the film festival. Unfortunately July and August was Yen Chi Tan's production peak, right now Yen Chi Tan's attendance would remain up in the air.h

The Motion Pictures Industry Association yesterday announced in the first half of the year (January 1st to June 30th) Hong Kong had 186 total first run films, only 27 were Hong Kong films while 159 were non Hong Kong films. The total box office revenue was HK$ 982,447,113, a slight rise of 0.62% from HK$976,358,254 during the same period last year.

The top three highest grossing Hong Kong films were all Lunar New Year film. AGENT MR. CHAN (DUNG DUK DUT GUNG) made HK$ 44,709,699. A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT (NGOR DIK CHING DIK NUI SAI) made HK$ 17,427,912 and MONSTER HUNT 2 made HK$ 16,092,372.

Hong Kong film box office was far behind foreign films. The top film of the first half of the year was AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (in release), which so far has made HK$ 153,115,816. In second place was JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (in release) so far has made HK$ 81,021,121, in third place was BLACK PANTHER with HK$ 63,312,121.

    An epidemic threat of an infectious fatal disease broke out in Malaysia. The threat drew international attention immediately. In such a desperate time, the World Health Organization did not object the use of a new medicine manufactured by Amanah, a pharmaceutical firm with international acclaim, before the medicine passed the authorities' examination.

    In the heat of the epidemic, a Malaysian journalist and the eldest son of the chairman of Amanah, Teo Chun Loong,were found dead in a sudden. Although primafacie evidence showed that both were suicide cases, Malaysian police officer Lee Weng Kan suspected the two men were murdered. As Teo Chun Loong’s wife fled to Hong Kong right after her husband's death, Lee Weng Kan went to Hong Kong and joined a Hong Kong police officer, David Wong, to further the investigation.

The film THE EMPTY HANDS (HUNG SAU DOH) earlier was invited to be screened at the 16th New York Asian Film Festival. Star Stephy Tang Lai Yun represented the team to meet with the audience in New Year. On July 6th, the event held an award ceremony and presented the Screen International Rising Star Asia Award to Tang Lai Yun. She became the first Hong Kong film star to receive the honor.

Tang Lai Yun said that she was very honored to receive the award and thanked each film festival judge. Tang Lai Yun said that in her 17 years in the business, she gradually turned from singer to professional actor and was more and more passionate about her performing art career. "Each character is a new life." She continued, "Although I am no longer considered a new comer, I would always remember not to forget my start. I would be curious about everything and face my challenges like a first timer."

The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Foundation donated HK$ 10 million to Fresh Wave Film Festival. Yesterday Lau Leun Hung's wife Kimbee Chan Hoi Wan presented the check and Fresh Wave founder and president Johnnie To Kei Fung, Fresh Wave director Louis Koo Tin Lok and artist Sammi Cheng Sau Man accepted. In addition Lo Hoi Pang and Gordon Lam Ka Tung showed their support in person. As the event neared its end and the guests went to the stage for a group photo, a woman jumped the barricade and raised a poster to ask for a favor and borrow 1 million from Koo Tin Lok for her seriously ill father. The guests had no idea but due to the woman's further action several security guards teamed up to subdue and remove her.

Goo Jai was asked if he knew that something sudden happened. Goo jai said that he had no idea. When the media informed him of the entire incident, he said, "That's pretty dangerous!" Goo Jai admitted that his company has already received such plead for assistance, but due to scam concerns he would try to make sure if it is a real case before handling it. He would help privately. Would he help with this case? Goo Jai replied, "I just got this plead from workers, but in the past no specific amount has been stated. So I would have to get a clear understanding first."

Was the woman's barrier jump too extreme? Goo Jai said, "At first I really thought someone wanted to jump down. Actually her crossing over already became a public safety issue, there were people below and if she slipped it wouldn't be good. This already put herself in danger. If she needed help there probably would be different ways to, so I have to get an understanding."

Goo Jai revealed that in the past some community groups, senior homes and even schools would ask him for help. Some cases might not ask for financial assistance. Some might just want holiday visits or material needs, it was not about money every time. Did he feel that he would attract so many people who wanted his help because he constantly did charitable deeds? Goo Jai said, "I never look into it, if I can help I help!" Has he been to generous? He said that his colleagues would help and follow up when they got the requests. Sometimes they would refer them to other charitable organizations for assistance. For example they once received school book requests and he asked publishers to help.

Sammi said that she did not find out about the woman's plead for help after she was back stage. She never has run into such a situation while working in the Mainland, but she has received fan letters to ask for help. She said, "Now information is so advanced, once someone private messaged me. Actually it's pretty hard because you don't know if it's fake or real. However I would think that if it is real help would be needed, so I would try to get an understanding." As for yesterday's incident, Sammi believed that Good Jai would know what to do, get an understanding first before helping.

Fresh Wave Film Festival received a donation of HK$ 10 million as seed money. Fresh Wave president To Kei Fung happily said, "With the huge sum of 10 million, we can make long term stable development. Because 'Fresh Wave" in recent year has been short on financing every year, this time with this kind of seed money for investment and interest would help. We will make safe investments and need at less 80% of the directors to agree before using the fund!" To Sir revealed hope to conduct a fund raiser next year. Cheng Sau Man immediately volunteered. Would he make a movie to raise fund? To Sir said, "It won't be as complicated as making a movie, but I would ask (Andy) Lau Tak Wa, Koo Tin Lok and Cheng Sau Man to do what they are best at because they are Hong Kong elite." Sammi said that she would perform without taking any money.

Would Sammi be interested in making a short film? She said that several years ago she helped a musician with a music short film and asked Michelle Wai Sze Nga to perform. "Luckily not too many people have seen it, I don't want anyone to know. It may look simple but directing is not just put up a pony tail and simply act like a director. I have no concept of camera position and editing! Directing is a noble job that requires knowing everything big and small, so I am not too interested because my abilities aren't in this area!" Sammi said that she is super looking forward to working with To Sir again, not in his city comedy but his gun fight or human movies. Reporters joked that how could she make a gun fight film in such a skinny shape? Sammi said, "I am incredibly agile!" As long as To Sir would direct she would be willing to give a discount or not take a salary at all. However she would need hair and make up money. She would pay if To Sir would have to pay, but if the boss would pay sh would charge more.

Dayo Wong Tze Wah opened his 26 show stand up comedy concerts two nights ago. Tze Wah once stated that this would be his final stand up show. Even Pak Suet Sin, Connie Chan Bo Chu, Carina Lau Ka Ling, Michelle Reis (Lee Ka Yun), Leo Ku Kui Ke and his wife, William So Wing Hong and his wife, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Cally Kwong Mei Wan and Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung's family attended. As soon as Tze Wah appeared the entire crowd cheered. He joked, "No refund! No pants removal! That's right, I am rinsing my mouth with the golden basin, it's final, yell while you can!"

When the DAYS OF BEING WILD music came out, Tze Wah said that he got into trouble at a late show. "When everyone left they looked like they cam out of a poison gas chamber, their eyes were red and full of hate. Why? Because no one got it, watching several big stars free ranging." He also said that the movie had big stars and big production, the outstanding line of "legs without bird", cost HK$ 40 million to make but only made HK$ 9 millon. At the time many Hong Kong filmmakers really disliked Wong Kar Wai. "I was thinking, why? Because he lost a lot of money? Come one, yours truly made FIGHTING TO SURVIVE (YUT MUN GAI BO BIU) and it seemed to have just made 5 figures. However no one hated me for losing all the money, at least I don't know anyone who hated me in the film industry. It's just me hating myself. The biggest difference between me and him is that when I took other people's capital I wanted to make it back, if I couldn't it was an audience quality problem. However Wong Kar Wai seems to not really want to make the capital back, using other people's capital and not wanting to make it back. He is a traitor to Hong Kong Capitalism!"

Tze Wah also said that elder Wong Jing probably did not like Wong Kar Wai too much because he asked him to play Wong Kar Wai. "He purposely asked me to upset him. In Wong Jing's movie I played Wong Kar Wai. What was my name? 'Wong Jing Wai'. People even said that in other words Wong Jing wanted to make up of Wong Kar Wai."
