Eric Tsang Chi Wai's current wife Chu Shek Chun passed away Monday (August 3rd) at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital. Her son Derek Tswang Kwok Cheung last night confirmed the news to the media. "Mother Madame Chu Shek Chun passed away peacefully on August 3rd 2020 at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital. Mother was very low key, thus our family would like to quietly complete her final journey. Hereby on behalf of Mother we thank everyone for their concern and also hereby thank friends who have provided help to us on the way." Reportedly Chu Shek Chun gave birth to Tsang Chi Wai's sons Tsang Kwok Cheung and Tsang Kwok Chau and preferred to maintain a low profile. Earlier this year due to illness when she returned to Hong Kong for an examination, Tsang Chi Wai and Tsang Kwok Cheung went to pick her up from the hospital. In May, Tsang Kwok Cheung has gone to the hospital numerous times, thus Chu Shek Chun's condition was rumored to have taken a serious turn at the time. Unexpectedly she succumbed to illness in recent days.

Eric Tsang Chi Wai's wife Chu Shek Chun passed away on the 3rd. Two nights ago services were held at the Po Fook Hill memorial hall and the funeral took place yesterday. The remains were then transported to Po Lin Temple's Mahavira Hall on Lantau Island for a Buddhist scripture chanting farewell ceremony, and cremated after. Son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung revealed that a burial at sea ceremony will take place at a later date.

Yesterday the Tsang family and friends arrived at the memorial hall. After the cremation ceremony at noon, Chi Wai, older son Tsang Kwok Cheung and his wife Venus Wong Man Yik, younger son Tsang Kwok Yau and his family leapt over a basin of fire and left. Chi Wai and Kwok Cheung stopped to speak with the media. Chi Wai appeared to be calm and said that his wife's funeral took place in a low key manner according to his late wife's wishes. Chi Wai revealed that his wife has been ailing for 10 months and had several types of cancer. She was fully prepared mentally for the passing and her family did not want her to be in pain. He also said that before his wife passed she already left her final wishes. Kwok Cheung was very good and kept Mommy company. On the day of the passing the entire family was by her bedside as well.

Kwok Cheung revealed that Mama mentioned that she would like a burial at sea and keep everything simple, because she was low key and did not want to bother another. After the cremation a date would be chosen later for the burial at sea ceremony. He also said that his film BETTER DAYS won 8 awards at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards, which he believed was the best gift for Mama before her passing. "That day I wanted the live broadcast with Mommy at the hospital. When I was announced as the winner, Mommy was very happy. Everyone embraced and cried. Being able to let her see a little achievement from me was the best Mother's Day present in history."

Chi Wai sentimentally said, "Certainly I miss her, anyone would. That's life. However my family is Buddhist, everyone gets how we see the concept of life and death." He also praised his late wife for her volunteer work and connections to many temples. She accumulated a lot of good karma and the cremation at Po Lin Temple was her wish. After the interview Chi Wai and Kwok Cheung went back to Po Lin Temple for a cleansing banquet with family and friends. Chi Wai also arranged for a vegetarian banquet for the media.

Former Shaw director Keith Lee Pak Ling passed away at the end of last month at age 68. Yesterday his family held services at the St. James' Church. Ti Lung and his wife, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, John Chiang Dai Wai, Cheung Kwok Ming and others came to bid their late friend a final farewell.

The funeral took place at 10 AM yesterday morning and ended at 11:30AM. Lee Pak Ling' son Lee Wai Tak carried his late father's photo to the hearse as the remains were transported to the Cape Collinson Crematorium for cremation. Ti Lung worked with Lee Pak Ling at Shaw. They have worked together at many films by their mentor Chor Yuen. He said that Lee Pak Ling treated Sifu very well and celebrated his birthday every year. When was the last time he saw Lee Pak Ling? Ti Lung said, "This year Sifu didn't hold a birthday banquet, but he and I live in the same district. Earlier we met and caught up. Although I thought his health was worse, he was very happy because his son was very successful with his studies in medicine. He was very pleased." Ti Lung yesterday saw Lee Pak Ling's son and praised his potential. Sincere and polite, he absolutely inherited his father's genes. "Although Lee Pak Ling didn't have any great achievement, he gladly helped people. I hope he would rest in peace."

The Roy Chow Hin Yeung directed film DYNASTY WARRIORS (JUN SAM GOK MO SEUNG) earlier went on location in New Zealand and completed its production successfully. The film aside from Louis Koo Tin Lok, Tony Yang, Han Geng, Philip Keung Ho Man, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai, Gulnazar and others also asked Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung to provide his voice for the role of Cao Cao. Director Chow Hin Yeung also personally provided his voice to Liu Bei.

The film's post production including the Cantonese voice over was already completed at the end of last year. Yet due to the pandemic the film release had to be postponed. Director Chow hoped to be able to fight for a good slot to meet the audience because the film spent a lot of material and man power. Just the ancient battle scene in New Zealand went to countless snowy mountains and forests. He hoped while the audience would enjoy the film, they would feel like they went on vacation to New Zealand once.

The film at the end of last year already completed all of its special effects and post production work and was turned over for inspection. Last year it even had a closed door screening at the Busan Film Festival in Korea, and the response was rather decent.

As the novel coronavirus pandemic remained unstable in Hong Kong, cinemas have halted operation twice because of it. The cinema and film industries suffered severe casualties. Recently as the pandemic showed signs of easing, good news came yesterday as the Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa starred film I'M LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN) has been scheduled for release in mid September. Sing Sing prayed for other Hong Kong films to be able to follow in release, hoped that the audience would be able to show their support at the movies and united to bring a wave of real rebound for the market.

The film I'M LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN) earlier was invited to participate in film festivals at many locations and received ten Hong Kong Film Awards nominations. Kwok Fu Sing even received the "London East Asian Film Festival" Best Actor award. The film also was selected for the 44th Hong Kong International Film Festival's Hong Kong Panorama 2019-20 section. I'M LIVIN' IT originally was scheduled for a release early in the year, but due to the pandemic it has been postponed over and over. The film company has decided to release the film in mid September. Yesterday it released the latest trailer.

Sing Sing looked forward to the film's upcoming release. "I'M LIVIN' IT is one of the performances that I am pleased with recently because the script deeply moved me. In the film I appeared in a rundown look, playing a disillusioned and over the hill elite who struggled to survive at the edge of society. The role was very painful and reserved, and had great potential. During the shoot, I also didn't eat in order to strengthen the feel of starvation for the performance. During the shoot I kept smoking and coughing. I even thought that I was really seriously ill and was worried for awhile, because I was quite in character. This film came from the heart, each co-star is very outstanding." Sing Sing hoped that the film market after almost half a year of suspension would bounce back with I'M LIVIN' IT and other Hong Kong film releases. He even said, "I hope even more viewers would be able to see outstanding Hong Kong films with heart, and everyone would show their support at the movies. This is the most important to the film market at the current stage."

Playing without make up in the film, Chin Wa played a down on her luck singer. She said, "In the film I would be in heavy make up in one moment and without any make up in another. I really appeared as a middle aged woman and used real emotions to get into character and affect the audience. The rarest part is working with Sing Sing for the first time. His emotions very quickly brought me into character. I am very thankful for this good co-star."

The 57th Golden Horse Award announced its first round selections including the Ko Chen-Tung starred A-CHOO, which collected dust for 6 years before its release; the Gwei Lun-Mei and Tony Yang starred A LEG, the Vivian Hsu starred producer debut LITTLE BIG WOMEN, the Charlie Yeung Choi Nei starred HELLO! TAPIR and the Tai Po starred THE SILENT FOREST.

The 2018 Golden Horse Award was swept up into a political storm. The Mainland's National Film Bureau last year announced its temporarily suspension on films and personnel from participating in last year's Golden Horse Award. Many Hong Kong films due to Mainland co-productions and other reasons did not apply. The situation has been the same this year. Many Hong Kong films that were released in Taiwan did not apply for the Golden Horse Award. Only the Kiwi Chow Koon Wai directed, Terrance Lau Chun Him and Cecilia Choi Sze Wan starred BEYOND THE DREAM (WAN OI) applied, but so far it still has not received any result from the event.

Hong Kong Director Benny Chan Muk Sing yesterday morning passed away from nasopharyngeal carcinoma at age 58. He was survived by his wife and three children. Chan Muk Sing made many memorable movies, and particularly excelled in police action films. His film with Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, RAGING FIRE (NO FOR), would be his final film. The news shocked the industry as many lamented the passing. Chan Muk Sing's directing debut was the Andy Lau Tak Wa and Wu Chien Lien starred A MOMENT OF ROMANCE (TIN YEUK YAU CHING). The film made "Wa Dee" into one of Lau Tak Wa's classic characters. Lau Tak Wa admitted the news of Director Chan's passing was very hard to accept.

Chan Muk Sing passed away from nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Reportedly, he was already feeling ill while directing the Yen Chi Tan and Tse Ting Fung starred RAGING FIRE. Later when he had his physical examination he was diagnosed with late stage NPC, and the film's post production work was handed off to others. In past months, Chan Muk Sing accepted hospital treatment but the cancer cell spread too fast. Finally he succumbed to cancer. RAGING FIRE was completed at the end of last year and became his final film. Even more regrettable, he was unable to see the film release before his passing.

Yen Chi Tan yesterday responded to the shocking news, "I don't know how to describe this heavy and sad feeling......farewell friend, have a safe journey!" Tse Ting Fung has worked with Chan Muk Sing since GEN-X COPS (DUT GAING SUN YUN LUI), then on NEW POLICE STORY, SHAOLIN, INVISIBLE TARGET (NAM YI BOON SIK), and RAGING FIRE. He stated that Chan Muk Sing has always been his mentor. "Whether in acting or in life, he has deeply influenced me. I would always miss you Director Benny."

About during the news of Chan Muk Sing's passing, director Johnnie To Kei Fung said, "I know that he has been sick for awhile, so I was mentally prepared. His passing was very sad! Having known him for so many years, he was a director of extremely good character! I hope his family would not be too heartbroken!"

Patrick Tam Yiu Man last year worked with RAGING FIRE. He pointed out that Chan Muk Sing was the Hong Kong film director he has always longed to work with. Finally last year he was honored to receive Director Chan's invitation to make RAGING FIRE. He said, "I remember the first time when I met him I felt just like a fan, because finally I had the chance to meet the the legendary good person and talented director. Finally we were able to work together. I still remember the incredibly happy and excited emotions that day. I never thought that seeing you again would already be farewell. Director Chan Muk Sing, I am truly very grateful to you for bringing so much excellent work to Hong Kong film and countless beautiful memories for movie fans. I also am very grateful to have this chance to work together and would never forget your easy going and friendly presence of a master. I learned a lot from you, I would always remember those days. Rest in Peace."

Andy Lau Tak Wa 30 years ago already worked with Chan Muk Sing on Director Chan's directing debut A MOMENT OF ROMANCE. He responded, "It's very hard to accept, my heart is hurting but life is unexpected!"

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing said, "When I learned about Director Benny's passing I was stunned and saddened, I am not able to accept it yet! He definitely was a very important director in my film life, from A MOMENT OF ROMANCE II to DIVERGENCE (SAM CHA HAU) he gave me a lot of guidance in many performances. He not only was a good director but a spiritual mentor and a good friend. He had good character! His passing was certainly a great loss in the film industry, and I will always miss him! My condolences to his family!"

Louis Koo Tin Lok has worked with Chan Muk Sing many times like in ROB A HOOD, CONNECTED, THE WHITE STORM, LITTLE BIG MASTER, CALL OF HEROES and MEOW (MIU SING YUN). Koo Tin Lok responded to the news with only a few words. "I am feeling down."

Nick Cheung Ka Fai worked with Chan Muk Sing on THE WHITE STORM and CONNECTED. "My impression of Chan Muk Sing was a righteous and straight laced person who had no regret in regards to film. I deeply miss this good friend. On our last call, he told me from the hospital that THE WHITE STORM was on the television. At the time he was already seriously ill, but we still savor our hard work from the shoot."

Stephen Fung Tak Lun in GEN-X COPS (DUT GAING SUN YUN LUI) worked with Chan Muk Sing. He even posted two photos with Chan Muk Sing. "Shocked to hear the passing of Director Benny Chan. Not only was he a strong force behind Hong Kong cinema, he was kind, moral, a true gentleman. We will miss you! Rest in peace!"

Miriam Yeung Chin Wa starred in the Chan Muk Sing produced LITTLE BIG MASTER (NG GOR SIU HAI DIK HAU JEUNG). She also said, "The news was so sudden and sad that I still haven't been able to accept it. He was a very good director, noble and selfless, just and loving nice guy. I am thankful for his guidance during the shoot, grateful to him for giving us so many good films. I would miss him forever!" LITTLE's director Kwan Shun Fai was inconsolable, saying that they have been friends of many years. They talked about everything. Chan Muk Sing told him to be a good director, to persist, to overcome any difficult no matter how hard it was. From Chan Muk Sing he learned to persevere. In June he texted Chan Muk Sing. At the time he said that he was working hard and he would miss him very much.

Chan Muk Sing in 1987 became an executive director under the leadership of Johnnie To Kei Fung and directed GOODBYE DARLING (HAP CHO DAI JEUNG FU) with Raymond Wong Pak Ming. Wong Pak Ming said, "I am very surprised! His first film was co-directing GOODBYE DARLING with me. Later when I worked with To Kei Fung and started the film company Paka Hill Film Production, Muk Sing made a very outstanding film A MOMENT OF ROMANCE (TIN YEUK YAU CHING). I never knew that he was sick, he was a very good director, a director who joined Cinema City in its final stage. Hearing the news today, I am truly heartbroken."

Working with him during the ATV era, Jackie Lui Chung Yin said, "It's too sudden! The two major directors of WHO'S THE WINNER, director (Billy) Tang Hin Sing and director Chan Muk Sing left us one after another, thank you for making so many on and off screen talent! To be able to work with you when I just started in this business and to have your guidance, thank you! Have a safe journey!"

In addition, Shu Qi, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Fan Bingbing, Janice Man Wing Shan, Jeana Ho Pui Yu, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Philip Keung Ho Man and others all remembered the director on social media.

The production company of Chan Muk Sing's final film RAGING FIRE (NO FOR), Emperor Motion Pictures, also praised Chan Muk Sing for his hard work and talent, and paying him the highest respect.

Chan Muk Sing after graduating from secondary school joined RTV as an assistant writer and director, in 1982 he joined TVB and became Johnnie To Kei Fung's assistant writer and director. His television work included THE FLYING FOX OF SNOWY MOUNTAIN, THE NEW HEAVEN SWORD AND THE DRAGON SABRE, WHO'S THE WINNER and FIST OF HURY. In 1990 Chan Muk Sing directed his first feature film A MOMENT OF ROMANCE (TIN YEUN YAU CHING). After 1997 he made the fully jump into the film industry and excelled in directing police drama, including NEW POLICE STORY, ROB B HOOD (BO BUI GAI WAT), CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING), THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK), HEROIC DUO (SEUNG HUNG). He even with the film BIG BULLET (CHUNG FUNG DUI NO FOR GAI TAU), HEROIC DUO, NEW POLICE STORY, CONNECTED (BO CHI TUNG WA) and THE WHITE STORM was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Director five times.

Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin has worked with Chan Muk Sing on two films. She remembered working with him and thanked him for the opportunity to perform. "I still remember in a detention room scene in NEW POLICE STORY, the director actually let me freely improvise, play the role how I wanted to play it and say what I wanted to say?? That was our first collaboration and I still was a new comer......"

"The second time was on ROB B HOOD. In one scene I had to shoot a crying scene on a busy street. Every second counted during the shoot, but the director worried about the pressure on me and dedicated a cinematographer to me. We kept shooting until my emotions came....... the co-star in that scene was elder Koo Tin Lok......Director Chan Muk Sing was a richly talented director. He had a very high moral and no temper at all. He was very courteous when he spoke to anyone, and he gladly worked with new comers. I am very grateful to the director for giving me a chance to perform then! I am honored to have been in your movies! Director Chan Muk Sing have a safe journey!"

Universe film boss Daniel Lam Siu Mng said, "He was very positive and optimistic in his fight against cancer. He accepted treatment, many people recommended doctors to him. When I found out he had cancer I was shocked. Today when I got the news of his passing, I was heartbroken. It's very regrettable!" He and Chan Muk Sing have known each other fo 20 years and worked together on 8 films. He praised Chan Muk Sing for his talent, making many outstanding films, very serious at work, and had no temper at all. Lam Siu Ming lamented, "He passed away after a year of discovering the illness. Now there isn't much I can do, let's see if his family would need any assistance."

Hong Kong police film representative and famous director Benny Chan Muk Sing two days ago passed away from nasopharyngeal carcinoma at age 58. China Film Directors' Guild issued a statement that night, "We deeply regret the loss of such an outstanding colleague."

China Film Directors' Guild in the statement said that it was "very sad and deeply sorry" over the passing of Chan Muk Sing. "Upon learning that Director Chan Muk Sing worked until to the final moment of life, the Guild solemnly salutes him."

"He was upright, honest, indifferent to fame and fortune and was deeply loved and respected by his colleagues." The Guild also asked the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild to extend their deepest sympathy to Director Chan Muk Sing's family.

In addition, Wu Jing starred in Chan Muk Sing's films SHAOLIN and CITY UNDER SEIGE (CHUEN SING GAI BEI). In his own hit film WOLF WARRIOR 2 he gave special thanks to Director Chan. Two days ago he posted an old photo of them on Weibo. "I would always remember every drop of the past! Director Chan Muk Sing have a safe journey!"

Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) also posted an old photo and remembered Director Chan on social media, "I am saddened over the passing of the legendary Hong Kong director Benny Chan. With GEN-X COPS, DIVERGENCE, and NEW POLICE STORY, under your guidance I completed my best work. I will always miss you, you are the greatest director." His GEN-X COPS co-stars Sam Lee Chan Sam and Grace Ip Pui Man also remembered the director on social media.

Eddie Cheung Siu Fai worked with Chan Muk Sing many times. "I met you on MING MOON, we met again on CONNECTED. You were great in the eyes of everyone. I thought I would be able to work with you again on THE TRIER OF FACT (SAU KUET JEH) but it was not meant to be. Have a safe journey!"

Taiwan artist Eddie Peng Yu-Yan posted a poster from CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING). "Remembering director and mentor Benny Chan: CALL OF HEROES reached the 4th anniversary of its release! Thank you Director for showing us the beautiful world that is full of justice in his heart."

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's manager Siu Mei posted the music video for the film DIVERGENCE (SAM CHA HAU). "I dedicated the film DIVERGENCE's theme song to my most beloved Director Muk Sing. Thank you for always supporting, helping, sharing with and trusting in me. I also thank him for his love, care, appreciation and trust for Aaron, enabling him under the guidance of Director Muk Sing to play this obsessive cop in DIVERGENCE that won him the rave reviews and his first Golden Horse Best Actor award. All of these are deeply etched into our hearts. This gratitude would never be forgotten. They were just like they happened yesterday. Originally we agreed to look for a movie to work together on this year, or Director Muk Sing wanted to see I'M LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN), but everything would never be fulfilled. I blame myself the most for not knowing how seriously ill he was, hate myself for not doing anything for himself at all. However, I believe that the gentle and good Director Muk Sing is without pain elsewhere. He would still forgive us with a smile and wish us well. Chan Muk Sing was a good director and a good friend with such generosity and talent! In the end, I would forever forever forever miss Chan Muk Sing. Without any time limit. It's late. As DIVERGENCE played, many memories were in my heart but tears could not hold back. "She said that after getting a call from Teddy Chan Tak Sum about Chan Muk Sing's passing she could not go back to sleep, as they had a "tearful vs. tearful" talk from the heartbreak and the sadness. "I am grateful to have met a gentleman and a good person like you in life. I would always remember you."

Chan Muk Sing was the producer of LITTLE BIG MASTER (NG GOR SIU HAI DIK HAU JEUNG) and everyone's "school supervisor". Yesterday the film's official site shared photos of Chan Muk Sing with the children during the shoot and wrote, "Dear Supervisor - Director Chan Muk Sing: Thank you for your patient guidance. We will remember your smile and your teachings. Director, thank you, have a safe journey!"

Famous director Benny Chan Muk Sing passed away on August 23rd from nasopharyneal carcinoma at age 58. The Hong Kong film industry was deeply sorry to hear the news. Reportedly his family would like Director Chan's funeral to take place in a low key manner. The 18th Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild executive committee two days ago issued a statement to express deep sorrow over the passing of Director Chan.

The statement mentioned Director Chan Muk Sing devoted most of his life in Hong Kong film, and set up an unique action genre model for Chinese language films. With strong, straightforward and bold visuals and drama, his films reflected the benevolence and righteousness under adversity that modern film environment has been exploring and examining. Behind the fierce light and shadow, Director Chan Muk Sing was always sincere, honest, pragmatic and chivalrous. He was deeply respected by his peers and loved by the younger generations.

Director Chan Muk Sing in his last days still devoted himself to the production of RAGING FIRE (NO FOR). His talent, passion and dedication to film would always remain in the hearts of his colleagues and fans, just like his numerous classic works. The entire Directors' Guild executive committee expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences over his sudden passing and extended their highest salute.

Louis Koo Tin Lok wrote an eulogy titled "Live in My Heart" for the director. Goo Jai said that when he received the news of Chan Muk Sing's passing, his mind first went blank as he was unable to express that sorrow. Once he settled down, various memories in no particular order flooded his heart as bits and pieces of visuals appeared. The first time they worked together on ROB B HOOD (BO BUI GAI WAT) was already 14 years ago, as they started their partnership that was both a friendship and a mentorship. He never thought that MEOW from three years ago would be their last collaboration.

Donnie Yen Chi Tan two nights ago again posted an old photo to remember Chan Muk Sing, saying that he was lucky to be able to work with him on his final film RAGING FIRE. After 25 years he was still that righteous, tough, happy and inspirational director and friend. He would miss his smile, sharing creative exchanges and stories of fatherhood with him.

The Hong Kong government yesterday announced an easing of gathering restrictions. Cinemas will resume operation Friday. Originally scheduled for an August 15th release, the Korean film PENINSULA finally would see the light of day and open on the day that cinemas would return.

Locally, BEYOND THE DREAM (WAN OI) and MY PRINCE EDWARD (GUM DOH) was still in release last month but was forced to cut their runs short. BEYOND THE DREAM's director Kiwi Chow Koon Wai said, "The cinema closing last month had quite an enormous impact on BEYOND THE DREAM, which has only been in release for 13 days. Upon learning that cinemas will be able to re-open on Friday, I am a little excited. During this period Hong Kong changed a lot, the future became very hard to grasp. I would encourage friends who are interested in BEYOND THE DREAM to take the opportunity and go to the movies as soon as possible." MY PRINCE EDWARD's director Norris Wong Yi Lam said, "Cinemas will finally re-open, MY PRINCE EDWARD was still in release before. I hope it will be able to continue. Many people want to see it at the movies. I hope everyone would continue to pay attention to hygiene when they go to the movies." SUK SUK's director Ray Yeung said, "I have been looking forward to the cinemas to open up again for a long time. I hope SUK SUK will be able to continue its journey at the movies. I hope even more that viewers would not forget SUK SUK and continue their support. Everyone please take the full preventive precaution when they go to the movies. The experience of enjoying SUK SUK on the big screen will be even more memorable and even more touching."

BEYOND THE DREAM was heading toward HK$ 9 million 13 days into its release

As the pandemic showed signs of easing, the government announced that cinemas will resume operation tomorrow. Once cinemas would reopen, many films will be released. They will include Emperor Motion Pictures' LEGALLY DECLARED DEAD (SEI YUN MO HOR YI), the Edko quartet of SUK SUK, MY PRINCE EDWARD (GUM DOH), BEYOND THE DREAM (WAN OI) and BAMBOO THEATRE (HEI PANG), PENINSULA and TENET. The Steve Yuen Kim Wai directed, Anthony Wong Chau Sun and Karena Lam Ka Yun starred Emperor Motion Picture LEGALLY DECLARED DEAD made almost HK$ 7.6 million at the box office before cinemas closed in mid July. Director Yuen Kim Wai said, "The release basically experienced different conditions, from the start we weren't certain whether it will open because cinemas were completely closed, then opened with half capacity. Later the cinemas were fully opened but suddenly closed again. My emotions were up and down. The hope of continuing the release became further and further away. Now I learn that it will return on Friday, of course I have mixed emotions. I wholeheartedly hope that viewers who have not seen it will be able to return to the movies and continue their support!" Lead actress Lam Ka Yun described LEGALLY DECLARED DEAD's return to the cinema as a tremendous surprise and thanked every cinema circuit for supporting Hong Kong films.

Meanwhile, LEGALLY DECLARED DEAD was selected for the 24th Montreal International Fantastic Film Festival and the 19th New York Asian Film Festival. The director said, "Being selected for these two film festivals is the recognition for the entire production team. In particular the Montreal International Fantastic Film Festival mainly features horror and thriller films, seemingly LEGALLY found a suitable platform to interact with colleagues everywhere."

The film BEYOND THE DREAM headed toward HK$ 9 million at the box office before cinemas closed 13 days after its release and even became the talk of the internet. The film's director Kiwi Chow Koon Wai said that although the film was heading toward HK$ 9 million, last month's cinema closing was quite a setback for BEYOND THE DREAM 13 days into its release. Fortunately he learned that Friday cinemas will open up again and he was a little excited.

The Herman Yau Lai To directed, Andy Lau Tak Wa produced and starred giant film production SHOCK WAVE 2 (CHAK DAN JUEN GA 2) will open at the end of the year. SHOCK WAVE 2 will start with an all new story and "Double Best Actors" team of Lau Tak Wa and new addition Sean Lau Ching Wan. Viewers would surely look forward to their performances 18 years since their previous collaboration. In addition, the cast will also include Ni Ni, Tse Kwan Ho, Philip Keung Ho Man, Marc Ma Yuke, Kenny Wong Tak Bun, Ron Ng Cheuk Hei, Timmy Hung Tin Ming and other good actors.

In the first SHOCK WAVE, the team blew up the 1:1 scale Cross Harbor Tunnel replica. In the earlier released SHOCK WAVE 2 trailer, the element of a "nuclear bomb" will be added. In the short trailer, the Hong Kong International Airport was engulfed in fire, the big explosion created a mushroom cloud, and a vehicle that was filled with explosives traveled at high speed. The scenes were shocking and realistic, and the pace was so intense and exciting that the audience would be left on the edge of their seats.

Playing a bomb disposal expert again, Lau Tak Wa's character this time would be even more complex. His fate and Ching Wan's would be drastically different. The audience would look forward to their scenes together very much.

Yau Lai To also praised Ching Wan and Ni Ni's professionalism. "Ching Wan after putting on the costume refuses to take it off. The bomb disposal suit is very heavy, stuffy and hot, but as soon as work began he wouldn't take it off even if the shoot was over. I had to ask him three times before he was willing to remove it. He really is a very professional actor, no more needs to be about his acting!"

As for his first time collaborator Ni Ni, Yau Lai To said that she was very focused. She was willing to personally perform many dangerous scenes. "In one scene she had to be hung to five or six stories, she still personally performed it. In a big explosion scene, she asked for not double. However we were very experience in explosion, as soon as it went off it would be impossible for her to see anything. It would be pointless for her to take the risk for something that would have no result, I had to talk her out of it."

SHOCK WAVE 2 announced its end of the year release. Scheduled for release around the same period would be DISCONNECT'D (DUEN MONG), OBSESSED (FUN SUN) and HAND-ROLLED CIGARETTE (SAU GUEN YIN). The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing starred DISCONNECT'D will be Soi Cheang Pou Soi produced, Wong Hing Fan directed. Other actors will include Wong Tak Bun, Patrick Tam Yiu Man and Michael Ning (Bak Ji). Sing Sing in the film will play a computer genius whose program puts himself and his family in danger. Mandarin Film's OBSESSED will star Kevin Cheng Ka Wing, Rebecca Zhu and Dada Chan Jing. Cheng Ka Wing will play a "cheater". As for the Chan Kin Long directed HAND-ROLLED CIGARETTE, the cast aside from Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Ben Yuen Fu Wa, Bak Ji and Chin Siu Ho will also include Best Actor Tai Po.

Kathy Yuen (Tong Yi) recently with her TVB hit series AL CAPPUCCINO character So Chi Shan and her innocent, four eyed girl image has been called the "strongfest four eyed girl" in show business. Rising in popularity, she was even named to play the new generation of "Ah Bo" by director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) in his film MANG NUI GAING WON (BLIND GIRL THRILLER).

After the film NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG), the Yip Lim Sum directed new film MANG NUI GAING WON will team Tong Yi with him again. He praised Tong Yi's widening range in recent years, as her acting kept improving he wanted to work with her again more. Being named to be the new generation of Ah Bo, Tong Yi felt very lucky. She joked that she grew up watching Director Yip's movies. When he asked her to play the new generation of Ah Bo, of course she was very happy. She hoped that the director would be able to design a character that she has never played before, with even greater differences from her own personality. She said, "From the beginning I have given people a mild mannered impression. I long to try vicious villain roles like in the series BEYOND THE REALM OF CONSCIENCE, or a tough female fighter."

The Hong Kong Film Award winning director Fruit Chan Gor's latest Hong Kong horror fantasy film (yet to be titled) yesterday held a production wrap ceremony. It happened to be Susan Shaw Yam Yam's 70th birthday, so Char Gor along with actors Rachel Lee Lai Chun, Wong Yau Nam, Man Suet Yi and others celebrated with Sister Yam Yam. Wong Yau Nam was injured in an accident during the shoot.

Chan Gor revealed that the film started production when the third wave of the pandemic erupted. At first he hesitated and wondered if he needed to shoot as schedule, but he considered that if the production was halted many would be out of a job. Thus he could only take the full preventive measures on the set. However he shot studio and location scenes as usual. He said, "I didn't separate between studio or location shoot, but I was the most afraid of not knowing the source if something happened."

Chan Gor revealed that Sister Yam Yam's character did not have any line at all. Sister Yam Yam joked, "My acting really is decent." Actually she played a 98 year old lady with dementia. When it acted her children talked about dividing the family fortune without any taboo with her. In the end after she passed away from illness she turned into a haunting spirit.

One of Wong Yau Nam's fingers was bandaged. He revealed, "Two days ago we shot a fight scene, and I accidentally hit a fan. The fan blades cut my finger and I had to go to the hospital right away. The doctor said I almost cut my tendon. Originally it would require stitches, but I was afraid of hindering the production progress. Luckily the bleeding was stopped and I went back to the shoot. The condition is OK now. I would have to wait a few more days before I can get the wound wet." This was Yau Nam's third collaboration with Chan Gor. He said, "At age 15 he picked me off the street to make movies. The first movie qualified for Venice. At the time he took me on vacation to France. The second movie qualified for Cannes and he took me to England. I hope this time the movie would be able to participate in large scale film festivals so we can go to other places."

Lee Lai Chun said that early during the shoot her father passed away. She was emotionally unstable and had to miss two notices. She wanted to say sorry to the director. Her father's affairs have already been handled so she would not say more. After finishing a movie at the end of last year, she still had work during the pandemic. She was very grateful and would properly cherish it.

ue to the pandemic showing signs of subsiding, cinemas after six weeks of suspension yesterday finally resumed operation. Crowds appeared at many cinemas as long lines formed for tickets. The Korean hit film TRAIN TO BUSAN's sequel PENINSULA yesterday already passed the HK$ 1 million mark box office by half a day, breaking the opening day box office record under the social distancing order.

According to the Hong Kong Motion Pictures Industry Association, as of 4PM PENINSULA yesterday already reached HK$ 1,180,859 in half a day of release. PENINSULA opened in Asia on July 15th, and had box office success across the board. With 352,926 viewers it became the highest single day opening box office champion this year. Its Taiwan opening day box office was over NT$ 24 million, surpassing its predecessor TRAIN TO BUSAN. In Singapore it even surpassed another hit Korean film ALONG WITH THE GODS: THE LAST 49 DAYS and set the highest opening day box office for a Korean film.

However the box office's biggest obstacle aside from the pandemic was the rampant online piracy. Earlier theater pirated version already appeared on Mainland sites; on the day of Hong Kong cinema's return, a high definition pirated version was available for free. Unfortunately the Hong Kong box office might be impacted.

As for Hong Kong films, domestic film industry rising stars Terrance Lau Chun Him, Cecilia Choi Sze Wan starred BEYOND THE DREAM (WAN OI) was already a hit before the cinema closings. At the time it already swept up HK$ 8.8 million at the box office. Yesterday when the cinemas re-opened the run continued. As of 4PM its box office was HK$ 195,202, with the cumulative box office before the closing the film has already passed the HK$ 9 million mark. Yesterday the film company posted another BEYOND THE DREAM production video to continue to promote the film.

The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing starred Hong Kong film I'M LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN) was slated for a beginning of the year release. Yet due to the pandemic it was postponed. Yesterday the film announced that due to the return of cinema it will be released simultaneously on September 17th in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. The film company continued to release a lot of promotional material, including character portrait posters with various themes that brought out the inner voice of the characters. The first one was a concept poster of Kwok Fu Sing's character. Sing Sing gave a lot of suggestions to the making of this poster and it was his favorite. Sing Sing hoped that everyone would go to the movies to support I'M LIVIN' IT, from which they would be more able to relate this meaning of this poster.

As for the Herman Yau Lai To directed and Andy Lau Tak Wa produced and starred new film SHOCK WAVE 2 (CHAK DAN JUEN GA 2), "Equal Write Union Hong Kong" expressed its displeasure over the trailer and the poster's lack of screenwriter credits. Universe film yesterday responded, "Because the cinemas re-opened, we understood that the audience demand for film releases in the second half of the year. Thus we first released a brief video to remind viewer friends to keep an eye on the release date. Later we will release official poster and trailer, which would have the strong line up of the creative units."

Director Benny Chan Muk Sing passed away from nasopharyngeal carcinoma at age 58. Commercial Rado aired an interview with him from 2013 again as a salute. Chan Muk Sing 30 years ago rose to fame with A MOMENT OF ROMANCE (TIN YEUK YAU CHING). He recalled the experience of working hard as television state production assistant to film director. He thanked two great mentors Shiu Sun and Johnnie To Kei Fu for their help. He was known as the "Handsome Director" but he never appeared on camera. He revealed that Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) and Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting have asked him to guest star, but being on camera was his weakness. He was shy and did not like to face the camera.

Chan Muk Sing in 2005 directed the film DIVERGENCE (SAM CHA HAU), which won Aaron Kwok Fu Sing his first Golden Horse Award Best Actor. He and Sing Sing worked together before on A MOMENT OF ROMANCE 2 (TIN YEUK YAU CHING II). He admitted that DIVERGENCE's role was tailored for Sing Sing. "Working together again after 10 years, I really appreciated that Sing Sing was able to let go of his singer baggage and coordinate with the sloppy and less than handsome image in the film. When Sing Sing received the Golden Horse Award, I was happily jumping on the sofa and screaming 'that's great' at home. I was very happy for him." Later he and Sing Sing worked together again on CITY UNDER SIEGE (CHUEN SING GAI BEI), which did not perform well. He admitted that he was disappointed. "I was attempting a new subject in Hong Kong film, a special effect film about biochemical crisis. Sometimes I would 'play with fire'! Like the lines in THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK) said, 'Today I am doing the most I can, even if I lose I know I did my best!' It is what is in the bottom of my heart. Many people say any Hong Kong directors who make this subject would be very dumb, but I really wanted to try how much we can do!" ,br>
Chan Muk Sing was nominated for Hong Kong Film Award Best Director 5 times but lost each time. He admitted that he was a little disappointed each time, but it was a driving force. Perhaps he truly did not perform as well as others and he would look forward to the next time.

Gigi Leung Wing Kei's online concert to raise fund for construction workers was aired at 5PM yesterday. To coordinate with the zero carbon theme, all of the workers brought their own water bottle to reduce plastic waste. The concert also took place under an unplug format as it hoped through music to bring attention to construction workers. Leung Wing Kei was the first female singer to perform a charity concert online to cheer for the people of Hong Kong. Gigi also wore white to match the theme and green to match the lawn. She performed 11 songs. When she started, she performed CERTAIN YEAR MID SUMMER with 4 harmony singers.

Gigi said that as the pandemic continued many people's livelihoods have been impacted, especially construction workers under the blazing sun still had to work outdoors and dining was no easy. She hoped through the concert to cheer on everyone and provide some practical assistance. Speaking of women among the workers, Gigi chose to sing G FOR GIRL for them. She also mentioned that she could not doing anything about having to stay at home to fight the pandemic, as she only hoped to reduce the pressure on healthcare personnel. "Staying at home is good too. Before I was busy with work and spent less time at home. Now I can have more time to spend with my family, feeling like I am making up for lost time." Then she ended the almost one hour show with FOR THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE, FIREWORK and TODAY.

Before this concert, Gigi was rather nervous. She said, "Although the time to prepare was very limited, everyone in front of and behind the scenes were very united. In order to prevent the pandemic and protect the participants we first maintained social distance and switched to a taping. Several days before the agreed upon date, a number 9 tropical cyclone warning appeared. We were very grateful though that on the day of the shoot the weather was beautiful. Heaven probably knew that we were doing something very positive and very meaningful, so it gave us very nice weather."

In order to finish this concert within the time limit, Gigi asked her former concert production team to prepare for this concert. Gigi sentimentally said, "The music and the production teams really cherished this chance to work. Under the pandemic the music industry actually has been drastically impacted. Many performances were cancelled. So seeing everyone today, we lamented but we were also very touched. Everyone really cherished this moment to get together."

Gigi said, "For every home we live in, the streets, the gutters, workers built for us with a lot of difficulties and under the blazing sun. Under the pandemic, when they have needs we must lend a helping hand. In particular I learned from the news that during the pandemic they still needed to work outdoors, some even caught the novel coronavirus and life became difficult. I hope through this concert to bring attention to the workers, cheer them on and even provide practical assistance."

Before the 2020 Miss Hong Kong pageant finals, guests posed for photos and spoke to the media. It was also a good opportunity for female artists to fight for the spotlight. Sammi Cheung Sau man's red dress and Hera Chan Hiu Wa attracted the most "eyeballs". Transitioned to office work, Louisa Mak Ming Sze still caught attention in black.

"Miss Photogenic" judge Mak Ming Sze said, "The last time I came back to TVB was last year's Miss Hong Kong pageant. Because I started as Miss Hong Kong, I should do something for Miss Hong Kong. (Did you come back to fulfill your one show a year contract?) I don't talk about that with the company." After her job switch Mak Ming Sze paid less attention to entertainment news, but in order to judge she looked at the candidates' information in detail. She felt that this year's their quality was rather high. A mixed heritage candidate caught her eye and she also thought that Rosita Kwok was statuesque.

Mak Ming Sze's appearance was rumored to be dipping her toes in for a return to on screen development. She denied and said, "No such thing, after the job change I already tried to attend less public events. I hope to focus on work, but Miss Hong Kong indeed changed my life. if needed I would come back and contribute."

Hera Chan Hiu Wa wore something that appeared to be ill fitting. She explained, "Earlier I ate more and blew up. At the fitting I was fatter than now. Luckily the wardrobe department helped with full precaution against wardrobe malfunction." As for her favorite candidate, she felt 6 Jessica Liu had a brilliant smile but did not know she had a tattoo. She believed that it would not affect the result. Her pageant year also had a candidate with tattoo. As for the lack of sponsor for this year's Miss Hong Kong crown, she said that she did not know.

Eliza Sam Lai Heung joked that she finally was able to dress up and go out. However during the pandemic she would be extra careful because of her child at home. She also joked, "Tonight I won't steal the spotlight from the candidates, because I only wore a head band and not a crown." Her favorite candidate was 8 Jessica Liu with her sweet smile, but actually the judging would depend on live performance.

Last year's Miss Hong Kong Carmaney Wong Ka Man admitted that she would miss being Miss Hong Kong. When she watched the candidates at rehearsal she was already very sentimental. She recalled last year at her own rehearsal she already broke down in tears, because after the pageant everyone would be scattered all over. She missed those day very much. Speaking of this year's candidates, she felt 2 Celine Harto was tall, 7 Ceci Mak was was outstanding with her talent; but when she saw 9 Rosanna Tse was injured during rehearsal and had to appear in bandage, she hoped that she would catch up. As for the lack of a crown sponsorship this year, she just found out herself. Some said that her crown might be the final edition, she courteously said, "The crown exists not in its value but the meaning behind it."

Sammi Cheung Sau Man was dressed in red. She said, "Under the pandemic I don't have much chance to dress up. It's a rare chance to wear a dress." Among the candidates, she liked 2 Celine Harto and praised how fit she was, her sweet smile and character. She joked that now the pageant trend has changed, everyone liked Celine Harto's Korean flavor. Her big eyes were already outdated, perhaps they would come back in 10 years.

Crystal Fung Ying Ying's favorite candidates were 2 Celine Harto, and 6 Jessica Liu and she was the fondest of Rosita Kwok because they went to the same university and both studied nutrition. She also said that her junior colleagues were fully prepared and did not need any tip. 9 Rosanna Tse was injured during rehearsal. Ying Ying stated that she would not give any sympathy point because the pageant had to be just. She would watch their live performance and she believed tha everyone would do their best.

Nancy Wu Ting Yan would serve as a "Miss Photogenic" judge. She had an understanding of the candidates' information, and several years ago she served as a judge as well so she had experience in the area already. She learned that certain candidates had tattoos. She said, "I wouldn't take points off for that. The tattoo decision was made before the pageant. I believe it has special meaning for her so it wouldn't affect her score."

Pakho Chau and Shiga Lin spoke to the media together. Pakho joked that he was "ordered" to look at pretty girls, but everyday at home he would watch his daughter. When he saw his daughter's improvement and began to interact, he felt rather gratified. He also said that this year's candidates were very high quality, with good memory and ability to improvise. 2 Celine Harto left him with the deepest impression and his height attracted him. He joked, "On stage I had to stand up straighter to match her." 8 Lisa Tse left Shiga Lin with the deepest impression because of her mixed heritage and her profession as an operation room nurse. When asked about her rumor with Carlos Chan Ka Lok, she explained, "Earlier we were caught together on the street, we just happened to go shopping. It wasn't anything special." She would not respond to whether they were dating. Pakho did not bother to confirm with her either, but he has not seen Shiga Lin and Chan Ka Lok appear together.
