hmv Digital China Group yesterday held a press conference. Louis Koo Tin Lok, Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Pakho Chau, Myolie Wu Hung Yi, Linah Matsuoka, Justin Cheung Kin Sing, Benny Chan Ho Man, Patrick Tang Kin Won and others attended as original series HONG KONG WEST SIDE STORIES (HEUNG SAI MUK GEI) and and films DECEPTON OF THE NOVELIST (JOK GA DIK FONG YIN), DEATH NOTIFY (SEI MONG TUNG JI DAN: UM HAK JEH) and DYNASTY WARRIORS (JUN SAM GOK MO SEUNG) were introduced.

In DEATH NOTIFY, Goo Jai had many special effect looks while Ng Chun Yu played a cop. Chilam and Hung Yi played a couple. After Hung Yi's death, cop Chilam investigated the Death Notification that the villain left. Would Hung Yi only need to work with a green screen and not be on the set with other actors like Chun Yu said? She said that she hoped not, Chilam said that he and Hung Yi should have many scenes because she would still appear despite her death. Would they have any relationship scene? Chilm joked, "Very thick, so thick that we can't be separated!" He also said that everyday he was reading the original work and the script as he believed that he would be very in character. However he definitely would not be excessive. Speaking of TVB's TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 2020, Chilam said that TVB has not contacted him. He would have to ask Chun Yu to see if he heard anything.

Linah Matsuoka in DECEPTION OF THE NOVELIST would perform in all Cantonese. She said that the Cantonese pronunciation was the hardest to learn, when she misspoke she turned words into foul language. Thus she would study with a teacher. Has she asked Alvin Chau Cheok Wa to teach her? Linah Matsuoka said, "No, is that right? I want to learn Cantonese a little better too!"

The HK$ 400 million Hong Kong science fiction action film WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) will open next year. Its trailer officially arrived yesterday. New director Ng Yuen Fai led Best Actors and Best Actress like Louis Koo Tin Lok, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Carina Lau Ka Ling as well as Philip Keung Ho Man and Tse Kwan Ho in the performance. In the polluted world of 2055, cities were in ruins due to an alien invasion.

In the trailer, transport planes took off from a base, the armor car and robot's highway chases were very realistic. Both the scenes and the art designs were high quality and rivaled Hollywood productions. At the end Koo Tin Lok in a mobile armor realized that an alien was getting close and looked terrified as he slowly turned around. Officers Lau Ka Ling and Tse Kwan Ho as well as the surprise appearance of Cheung Ka Fai already made quite an impression for people to look forward to. In a yellow leather jacket and dreadlocks, Keung Ho Man played a "cyclops" with a fake eye and shook of robot pursuits with his high speed driving skills; Goo Jai and Lau Ching Wan both fought aliens. Whenever they appeared they had to wear 40 pound of mobile armor, run and jump, which were quite a challenge physically.

Carina Lau Ka Ling, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Leo Wu Lei, Ming Dow, producer Yang Zhenjian and director Zhang Peng yesterday attended the film ASURA's trailer press conference. The actors talked about their characters. Ka Fai, Ka Ling and Wu Lei played the "three in one" Asura for the special effects. Ka Ling tried no costume for the first time. Ka Fai revealed that she was "showing her spots" in the film. Actually she had to wear the special effect suit with a lot of dots. Ka Fai even revealed that he had to move Ka Ling's body.

Ka Ling, Ka Fai and Wu Lei played the "three in one" Asura. Ka Ling said, "I have never had no costume in my film career." Ka Fai joked, "Completely naked because the budget was already spent on special effects. However many spots would be shown." Ka Ling explained, "I showed spots all over my body because I wore a spot tracking special effect suit. Aside from Ka Fai no one had any costume. We also had to coordinate our performance with Ka Fai's action. We had to go in opposite direction from him, which to me was a huge challenge. Luckily Ka Fai was always on the set, he would move my body according to his own movements to assist with the performance." Host Astrid Chan Chi Ching said that Ka Fai felt Ka Ling all over. Ka Fai corrected her and said, "Moving and feeling is two things, don't overthink it." Ka Fai also joked, "I am King Asura, in the film there are six realms. I am the king of one of the realms. I want to be a Heavenly King but unfortunately Hong Kong already has Four Great Heavenly Kings. So I want to be King of Heavenly Kings, which is also the message that this film wants to bring out." Finally he, Ka Ling and Wu Lei demonstrated "combination".

Ka Ling revealed, "The special effect suit was very tight fitting. Not having to wear a costume feels rather comfortable, but I had to wear a several pound helmet. In comparison to Tsui Hark's Wu Zetian this time was already very simple, not to mention that it was Hollywood special effect tailor made. After each shot the helmet was removed and I had no headache." Speaking of Ka Fai moving her body, Ka Ling joked, "This was a very special experience, coordinating with Ka Fai to move in opposite direction. To me it was difficult, I would rely on my imagination. (All your work has been difficult?) It's better that way, without difficulty there wouldn't be improvement." Just finishing her time off, Ka Ling has already thrown herself fully into work. Although she went skiing for ten days, Ka Ling still wanted more. However she needed a balance between work and vacation. She joked, "I am not as carefree as Mr. Leung (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), so lazy. He is still on vacation. Our personalities are different, right now I have to prepare for the play in July."

The Association for Betterment of Hong Kong's Entertainment Industry in Mainland China yesterday launched at the Hong Kong Entertainment Expo and announced its membership: President Jackie Chan, vice presidents Liza Wang Ming Chuen and Alan Tam Wing Lun, executive president Eric Tsang Chi Wai, founding members Warren Mok Wah Yeun, Kennedy Wong Ying Ho, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Andrew Lau Wai Keung, Johnny Ng Kit Chong, Wong Cho Lam and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung. Peter Lam Kin Ngok, Albert Yeung Sau Sing, Ng See Yuen, Chan Kwok Keung, Ng Yu, Joey Yung Tso Yi and other artists attended. Chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor also sent a congratulation video. The association's principles will be uniting, assisting, and following up with the needs of artists working in the Mainland.

The Association's president Jackie Chan said, "In the past ten years, Hong Kong film or television is growing larger and larger in the Mainland market, meaning more and more opportunities for us. The Association hopes to strengthen collaboration and communication between two places and to help Hong Kong on and off camera performing artists with Mainland work and on the field experience. I spent 20 years on continuous attempts and last year founded the China Stuntman Association in hopes of a home for wandering stunt people. The Association provided a place and channel for foreign producers and directors to find the best martial art directors and stunt professionals in China. Over 20 years ago we established the Hong Kong Performing Artist Guild in hope for the benefit of the next generation. This 'Association' is also founded by Hong Kong people for continuation. We can establish scholarships for Hong Kong students to attend classes at various performing art schools and higher learning institutions in the Mainland for more education and experience, because opportunities are always for those who are prepared. Today again thank you to each film industry big bosses, brothers and sisters, because this association is not for us, but for you."

Executive president Tsang Chi Wai and vice president Wong Ming Chuen spoke together on the stage. Chi Wai said, "I am truly happy that actually the Chief Executive is so supportive of us, sitting down to chat with us." Ah Jeh agreed. "I feel very encouraged. The several of us actually already went to Beijing once in October two years ago and visited with the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Ministry of Culture, the Publicity Department and government officials and expressed the problems that our show business has faced." Chi Wai followed, "That time the range was pretty wide, including film, television, Chinese opera and classic music, variety program, many friends in music reflected their needs and problems. In addition the Chief Executive this time has been so supportive of us, the nation has such good policies and is supporting us as well." Ah Jeh also mentioned, "Chairman Xi Jinping also at his report asked for more benefits for Hong Kong and Macao residents in the future and Hong Kong and Macao's economic development. Show business is also a very important part of the national cultural and creative planning."

Chi Wai also said, "This is the main reason for the establishment of the Association. Every year over 16,000 television series, 800 films are made in the Mainland, everyday several dozen films and series are in production. That is not including web drama. Many of us from Hong Kong are working on them, especially in places like Hengdian and Beijing. So while preparing for the establishment of this Association, we would also set up our offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Hengdian in hopes of helping friend who are working in the Mainland. So we can have a place for everyone to communicate and assist them." Ah Jeh replied, "The numbers Chi Wai talked about are rather attractive, admittedly few can have such an opportunity. If the Mainland government can cancel the restriction on Hong Kong technicians and artists working in the Mainland so more technicians and talent can exchange freely, it will be a win win situation." Chi Wai answered, "This is we are fighting for! Another opportunity that we need to grasp is the nation's effort in the development of the Great Bay area. We have to properly take advantage of it, develop our Cantonese market, properly grab onto our Cantonese market and head internationally." Ah Jeh summed up, "Big Brother Jackie Chan says that our Association's name is a little long and hard to remember, but our goal is only a few word long. President Koo Tin Lok provided them. He really is very smart, 'unite, assist, follow up'. This is our principle."

Jackie Chan, Tsang Chi Wai, Wang Ming Chuen, Lau Wai Keung and Wong Cho Lam were interviewed. What was the goal of the Association? Jackie Chan said that China's film and television development is thriving, he hoped that the Mainland would open up more spots for Hong Kong whether on or off camera like cinematography and lightning. As Tsang Chi Wai said the annual film and television productions truly had too many opportunities.

Would he like to increase the amount of the quota? Chi Wai said that the quota was not the most important. "Because a lot of problems have to be faced when making a movie in the Mainland, like how to file a complaint. Now the Hong Kong Performing Artist Guild has no office in the Mainland. This Association is in a similar fashion, but is called the Association for Betterment of Hong Kong's Entertainment Industry in Mainland China. Mainly it will help Hong Kong artists who are working in the Mainland, understand the Mainland policies, like the Great Bay development that can benefit the development of Cantonese, we have a lot of information that everyone needs to know!" Chi Wai also revealed that that older and more accomplished artists might already have entered the Mainland market, but they can recommend the younger generation who wants to work in the Mainland. He also had a plan to establish some performing art academic society and foundation to help workers with Mainland development. Chi Wai also mentioned that when some Mainland officials visit Hong Kong they would need to be received, during which they could interact and exchange messages. The Association can also serve that purpose.

As for the process of preparing for the Association's establishment, Jackie Chan said that he spent 20 years to found the China Stuntman Association. China is too big and truly needs time to contact to all the places. Chi Wai said that this Association started in October 2016 with editor Cheung Ka Fai's first trip to China. Because he did not receive the salary that he was promised, Tsang thought of founding an Association to help show business colleagues in need. Chi Wai said, "The Association also needs Mainland recognition. In the past I have paid visits. Now after the 19th National Congress, Chairman Xi also helped. So we felt it was time to establish this Association!"

Wang Ming Chuen also pointed out that the establishment was at the right place and the right time. Hong Kong people who work in the Mainland run into a lot of difficulties, but in the past they might not have the chance for a group of people to stand up and communicate. Now they can coordinate with national policies like One Belt One Road and the Great Bay Development. Ah Jeh said, "Actually we mentioned the Great Bay region many times mainly to coordinate with the Guangdong culture. First we resolve the language barrier, which would be easier to develop. The Great Bay residents would watch Hong Kong television programs and films, starting here would be a little easier."

As for major projects, Tsang Chi Wai revealed that the Association would work with leadership of various show business organizations like the Performing Artists Guild president Koo Tin Lok for an understanding of the development of the Great Bay area with some council members. Then he would inform the Hong Kong members about opportunities. Chi Wai pointed out that the Great Bay area had a population of 70 million, with the nearby areas it would be over 100 million. They all could communicate with Cantonese. Hong Kong right now only has over 7 million Cantonese speakers. In the future this would be a good opportunity for Cantonese development. He mentioned that in the future he would make a Cantonese Lunar New Year film. Over 100 million people would see it in the Great Bay area, thus he believed that since Dayo Wong Tze Wah's Lunar New Year film was able to make HK$ 40 million it would be able to make over 100 million in the future. With even higher box office film productions naturally would be able to have even higher production budget. This would be a huge opportunity.

This year would be the 15th anniversary of music diva Anita Mui Yim Fong's passing. Edko Film reportedly was planning to start production on a biographical film about her in the middle of this year. The film company supposedly wanted the 28 year old Hong Kong model Daniella Wang to play Sister Mui and COLD WAR director Longman Leung to direct. Mother Mui said that the film company contacted her to be a consultant and provide information. She would decide after seeing the story. Many online felt upset by the news of the Daniella Wang casting and that Alice Chan Wai would be even more convincing.

Edko Film confirmed plans to make the movie. "Yet everything is still in early stages of planning. When it is ready that we will make an official announcement. Later when we have more details we will contact friends in the media! Thank you everyone for your concern!"

Louis Koo Tin Lok, Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen), Raymond Lam Fung, Frankie Lam Man Lung, Twins and Liza Wang Ming Chuen two nights ago attended a Weibo Night award event. The classic television series STEP INTO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) at the end of the year will make a film version. Goo Jai said that other actors like Suen Huen and Lam Fung did not change much. He humbly said that they looked better than he was. Lam Fung believed that he would reprise his role and that everyone had to play their original character for it to be a collective memory. He also joked that he felt that he was becoming better and better!

Winning another Best Actor award, Koo Tin Lok already won three in a week. He said that it was a honor after over 20 years in the business. Later he will celebrate with friends at dinner, but he did not dare to think much about the Hong Kong Film Award next month. Otherwise if he would not win it would be a big problem.

Speaking of the film version of the classic series STEP INTO THE PAST, Goo Jai admitted that he and Suen Huen already had chemistry and did not need any warm up. "Back then I played this character for 8 months, for a TVB series it was very rare. I believed then that the character will return." He revealed that the film version will begin production at the end of the year and that other actors like Suen Huen and Lam Fung did not change much. He humbly said that they were better looking than he was. "People are no match for age, so people would mature but have another feeling. I can't play a teenage character again even if I want to. When I play the character I won't be too mischievous."

Joining Koo Tin Lok's company, Lam Fung said that his schedule has been packed. Aside from BACK TO THE PAST he will also make two new films. Will he reprise his role? He said, "If not, the audience won't be able to relate. Everyone would have to play their original characters for it to be a collective memory." Lam Fung said that although STEP INTO THE PAST was 17 years ago and he, Goo Jai and Suen Huen have not worked together again, they stayed in touch over a decade. "I feel I am better and better, actually back then I had no idea what I was doing because it was my first costume performance. Now with more experience I would be even better."

Suen Huen also said that aside from BACK TO THE PAST, she would work with Goo Jai on another new film. Her co-stars would include Louis Cheung Kai Chung. She said, "I am very happy because I haven't worked with Ah Chung before. I really like him because he can bring life to a character." Would Suen Huen in the new film played her expertise of a hostage character? She said, "No, in the script it's not. However I haven't worked with Goo Jai for too long, I need time to warm up a little."

Winning television on screen couple with Suen Huen, Lam Man Lung joked that they were the youngest pair. Last year when they worked on TVB's MY UNFAIR LADY, they were written as two elderly saving the entire family. He thought they were talking about Wu Fung and Helena Law Lan.

We hoped that this time his schedule could coordinate and at the same time he could cheer for Sammi in a reunion."

The Juno Mak Chun Lung directed film SONS OF THE NEON NIGHTS (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) after 8 months of intense productions finally wrapped up its production for the five major leads; Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) went from the first day of production to the end of last year; Tony Leung Ka Fai and Sean Lau Ching Wan both from June last year to November, while lead actress Gao Yuanyuan finished soon after. SONS OF THE NEON NIGHTS wrapped up its production and entered into its post production process.

Last September SONS OF THE NEON NIGHTS released its first behind the scene footage that gave a glimpse into its team, production and style, which already led to a huge response. The behind the scene look this time had even more on set production details and the leads' wraps.

SONS shot in the Mainland, Hong Kong and overseas. The team experienced the challenges of over 30 degree Celsius high and 20 below zero degree Celsius low, almost 60 degrees of temperature difference; from the city to the snowy mountain, from the summer to the winter, with painstakingly created large scale scenes without sparing any detailed honing, the professionalism of the director, the cast and the crew's pursuit for perfect would be embodied everywhere.

In addition, singer and record producer Juno also demanded an unique style for music and creativity. Before the production began, he already invited RIGOR MORTIS (GEUNG SI)'s English composer Nate Connelly to write several dozen songs according to the film style. He listened to them on the set as he got into his work. This time the behind the scene special also put on brand new music for him on a rare occasion.

Juno said, "This film's creative and production process resembles a 'pregnancy' process even more. It is not a streamline production. During the creative and production process, I was particularly strict with myself because my greatest enemy is myself. Luckily the team is just as into it as I was. Everyone waited for hours together for a real snow scene."

The Hong Kong Film Award Association yesterday announced this year's Lifetime Achievement Award winner to be famous director Chor Yuen. The event will present the highest honor to Director Chor Yuen on April 15 at the award presentation for his contribution to the Chinese film industry.

Currently 83 years old, Chor Yuen joined the business in 1955. In 1958 at age 24 he made his solo directing debut with GRASS BY THE LAKE. In 1960 he already made the critical and commercial success, the social family tragedy THE GREAT DEVOTION. In the early 70s his Cantonese film THE HOUSE OF 72 TENANTS made over HK$ 5.6 million and broke Golden Harvest's film box office records that Bruce Lee films monopolized for years. At the same time, THE HOUSE OF 72 TENANTS revived the once vanished Cantonese film production. Director Chor Yuen's highest achievement in Cantonese film undoubtedly was his beloved romantic drama, the Ida novel based BE MY LOVE (1968) left the studio and shot mostly on location. The cinematography had layers and the atmosphere cold, rich in European film flavor. Director Chor Yuen even began the Gu Long wuxia novel adaptation fever, from 1976's KILLER CLANS (LAU SING WU DIP GIM) to THE MAGIC BLADE (TIN NGAI MING YUET DOH, 1976), CLANS OF INTRIGUE (CHOR LAU HEUNG, 1977), JADE TIGER (BAK YUK LO FU, 1977), DEATH DUEL (SAM SIU YEH DIK GIM, 1977), THE SENTIMENTAL SWORDSMAN (DOR CHING GIM HAK MO CHING GIM, 1977) and others. In the 80s, Director Chor Yuen's creativity remained strong. Today's superstars Chow Yun Fat and Stephen Chow Sing Chi have worked with Director Chor Yuen respectively on THE DIARY OF A BIG MAN (DAI JEUNG FU YUT GEI, 1988) and SLEAZY DIZZY (SIU CHAU AH SING, 1990).

Also in the film were Michael Hui Koon Man, Michael Chow Man Kin, Tse Kwan Ho, Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Jennifer Du Juan and others. Stills were released yesterday. Yung Tsz Kwong revealed that one of the main reasons making THEORY for him was Sing Sing. When he made PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MU), he felt that Sing Sing had a star of yesteryear feel like Cary Grant. Later he watched the Martin Scorsese's WOLF OF WOLF STREET and saw Leonardo DiCaprio's character and thought, "Isn't that Lui Lok?" Filled with inspiration for the characters they created in the film, their choice for this character naturally had to be Sing Sing. Last time in PORT OF CALL Sing Sing was dirty and old, this time he owed him a handsome look.

Yung Tsz Kwong earlier did not dare to imagine inviting Wai Jai to play a character that was mild mannered but full of schemes. He said that he had no more regret. He said that Wai Jai represented the Hong Kong film industry at its most glorious and beautiful generation. He was willing to make THEORY also because his relationship with Hong Kong film.
